Ryan Reynolds' pal Elizabeth Banks says he announced his engagement to Scarlett Johansson via text message!
"I texted him to say, 'Are you really engaged or is this a joke?'" she told Usmagagzine.com at the Alexander McQueen flagship boutique opening in West Hollywood on Tuesday.
"And he said, 'Yes, we're really engaged!'" added Banks.
Banks, who co-starred with Reynolds in Definitely, Maybe, is currently filming the President Bush biopic W is Shreveport, Louisiana. (Check out pics from the president's daughter's wedding here.)
Johansson, 23, and Reynolds, 31,, announced their engagement on May 5, the day the actress flashed a three-carat diamond ring estimated to be worth about $30,000 at the Met Costume Ball Gala.

What a jerk your ex-husband sounds like! I got dumped by e-mail once and it was horrible. After about a year I realized that that type of gesture shows the true colors of a person. You are better off! I am now happier than ever. Really, best of luck.

With the way marriage is today, just live with each other for about three years and see what happens. People are getting married too quickly and it seems not to last. People are also getting married too young. Live life some, before settling down.

GOOD LUCK TO THEM, HOPE THEY CAN MAKE IT LAST. WHAT CELEBRITY MARRIAGES (WHEN BOTH ARE CELEBRITIES) HAVE ACTUALLY LASTED A LONG TIME? IT SEEMS WHEN BOTH ARE FAMOUS, IT JUST DOESN'T LAST. TIM ROBBINS AND SUSAN HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOREVER, BUT THEY NEVER TIED THE KNOT. SAME THING WITH KURT AND GOLDIE. BRUCE AND DEMI WERE TOGETHER FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS, WHICH IS LONG COMPARED TO HOLLYWOOD YEARS.
