A private funeral for Meet the Press moderator Tim Russert at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. was attended by a wide array of politicians and journalists Wednesday.
Russert's 22-year-old son Luke – who spoke of his father on Today Monday – read what he described as "my Dad's last speech."
"My dad was my best friend," he said. "Well dad, I am the man for this job."
Luke said "we are all a small part of a grand design" and ended the speech with Russert's famous phrase "Let us all go get 'em."

Presidential contenders Barack Obama and John McCain sat next to each other as they mourned.
Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams, Maria Shriver, Matt Lauer, Katie Couric, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and John Kerry also attended.
A private memorial will be held Wednesday afternoon at the Kennedy Center. The service will be broadcast on MSNBC.
Entrance music will be provided by Russert's iPod.
Russert, 58, died at work on Friday from an apparent heart attack. A wake was held Tuesday at the St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., where Luke graduated in 2004.

Brian Williams said that Tim was a true family man, finding joy and miracles everyday in his son Luke and in his wife. He never cursed or caused discomfort in others, and always tried to make the other person feel good about themselves. His family should be proud of him, and I know that Luke will have a lifetime of priceless memories to draw on when the tough times come around. His father will always be watching out for him and his mother. God speed Tim. You will be missed.

Anon 4:16 - You should be embarassed. You are what is wrong with the world today...people too selfish to have empathy for anyone until it hits too close to home for you to deal with. Only then will you learn the true meaning of pain, loss, and love, and then it will be too late. I feel so sorry for you. I don't know what kind of person you have to be to say such a thing. You probably have nothing better to do than sit around on gossip sites and criticize everyone when the only person you should be critiquing is yourself. There are people out there in never-ending war, starving, poor, educationless...There are people out there who are spending days upon days giving aid to those less fortunate...and those people are who Tim Russert brought to our attention. And you have the nerve to insult him in the time of his death?
What have you done for anyone?

Could you please list what you have done to help out the American people?
Also, let's consider this question: Does a person have to actually better the lives of a large number of people in order to merit being mourned by that same group? Or can we mourn someone because they were accomplished, intelligent, kind, fair, and respectful of others, among other things? As evidenced by the comments on message boards like these, the attributes held by Tim Russert are not common ones.

To "Annonymous" - There are some people in this life who have a positive effect on everyone they come in contact with, whose vitality and passion leave a lasting mark on those around them. Tim Russert appeared to have been one of those people. My guess is that you are not one of those people.

4.16-WOW, how ignorant!Well,a LOT of people care about him!!!He was a man with a great spirit,a true role model.If you don't know much about him,don't say anything.So boorish.Where is your decency?
By the way ,people who don't know much about Tim Russert era the typical ignorant Americans who don't read/watch enough REAL news,so they don't really have a clue,and then they go on and vote for people like Bush or McCain.
