Maggie Gyllenhaal
Maggie Gyllenhaal was born into a creative family: her father is an Emmy-nominated director, her mother is an Oscar-nominated scriptwriter, and her brother is actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She was born in New York, grew up in California, and graduated from Columbia University in 1999.
Gyllenhaal is engaged to actor Peter Sarsgaard. She gave birth to their first child, Ramona, on October 4, 2006.
Gyllenhaal’s breakout role came in 2002 with Secretary. Before that, she had acted in six independent films during the 1990s that were directed by her father and played Jake Gyllenhaal’s sister in Donnie Darko (2001). After Secretary, Gyllenhaal appeared in Mona Lisa Smile, Happy Endings and World Trade Center. New mother Gyllenhaal received double the joy in 2006 when she not only gave birth to her first child but was also nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for her turn in Sherrybaby.
