A Prairie Home Companion
By ERIC ANDERSSON RELEASE DATE: October 2006

MELINDA SUE GORDON
The best parts of this touching dramedy — about the quirky players in a live, Minnesota-based radio program on its last night of broadcast — feature the talented cast performing spirited songs. Sisters Rhonda (Lily Tomlin) and Yolanda (Meryl Streep, who has beautiful, powerful pipes) sing sweet ballads like “Goodbye to My Mama.” And two cowboys (John C. Reilly and Woody Harrelson) get big laughs for their cheeky ditty “Bad Jokes.” The weakest link: Lindsay Lohan. As Streep’s poet daughter, Lola, she’s overshadowed by her talented elders. (New Line, $30)
