The big daddy of hospital shows delivered some serious drama in its 1999–2000 season: In one shocker, plucky Lucy (Kellie Martin) is stabbed to death by a mentally disturbed patient. Grim, powerful stuff, and it’s all told with honest writing and superlative acting (Maura Tierney, Anthony Edwards, Alex Kingston, Ming Na — this is one of TV’s strongest casts). Bloopers add some welcome levity. (Warner, $50)
