The stars Robin Williams, Toni Collette
The story A lonely, middle-aged public-radio host, Gabriel (Williams), befriends a terminally ill 14-year-old listener he only knows as Pete (Rory Culkin). But Pete’s adoptive mother (Collette) is fiercely protective of him — so much so that Gabriel begins to doubt the boy’s very existence.
What’s good It’s nice to see Williams tone down his schtick. Here, he’s able to give several layers to his character. Costar Sandra Oh provides comic relief.
What’s bad Though the eerie drama has its share of tense moments, it’s ultimately unsatisfying thanks to a non-sensical twist ending.
Final say Williams wins sympathy, but overall, not a good Night.
