Cate Blanchett, who normally has one of the most enviable figures in Hollywood, shocked partygoers at the Met Costume Institute gala with her shockingly gaunt frame.
The hourglass figure she flaunted at the Oscars just two and a half months ago has been replaced with protruding shoulder bones and mysterious bruises on either side of her chest.
Did the mother of two slim down for her role as Bob Dylan in the new biopic I’m Not There? Either way, let's hope the actress has an extra slice of cake when she turns 38 next week.

Hell no, I wish I was that thin. She has always been gorgeous, amazing cheekbones, one could jump off them and so lithe but to me- nope, she looks gorgeous but in a different way. I have been told I am too thin but I could never have the restraint to look that thin. That dress, well her taste is never anything but glam and class with a touch of the bohemian- she's wonderful. Not your Hollywood, cookie cutter looks like everybody else and i adore her. And guess what- SHE CAN ACT.
I suppose if she maintained that weight for too long, say by age 48 she would look older but then they always have botox and aretcol and collagen and lasers etc.

ok,ok, Cate, you are going too far. Don't you realize that by letting your body go into starvation mode, that there is no guarantee that it won't just shut down and die. Everyone is different, and your body may just have the heart attack,or go into irreversible acidosis or alkylosis(2 deadly things that happen when you are dying via starvation). I used to be anorexic 15 years ago, and I never realized then that I could have died at any minute. There aren't cetain milestones that you have to pass before you die, everyone's body is different and can give out on you and die at anytime. Cate is one of my favorite actresses and I'm really surpirsed that she is this dense.

Except that the cancer patient in Cancer Vixen GAINS WEIGHT during treatment. Read the book. Most young women with breast cancer gain weight on chemo, unlike patients with other types of cancer on chemotherapy who lose weight.

God, please offer Cate Blanchett the peace and serenity to have and extra serving of food that has more then 10 calories. I pray for the hungry and the less fortunate to receive a blessing form god, to fill there tummies and give them hope. I should have pray in general and include every one. Not just the unfortunate ones sorry Cate Blanchett.
Why would any one want to do that with there body. I am currently over weight, but I would never ask to be that thin. I would of taken her body with the hour glass figure.

Yikes. But you know, I think it's just a very bad picture of her. There's no way Cate's gone anorexic, she's just way too stable and grounded and in control for that. These are the only bad pictures I can remember seeing of her in which she doesn't look drop-dead gorgeous. I saw some pictures dated 5/8 of her in New York on some shoot associated with TIME magazines "100 Most Influential People of 2007"--apparently she's one of them--and she looks UNBELIEVABLE. Just...too beautiful and sexy for words. Check it out, your jaws will hit the floor. You won't be disappointed.

Actress Cate Blanchett (The Aviator) is hailed by many as the up-and-coming Meryl Streep. And for good reason: she has effectively played a wide range of characters from Queen Elizabeth to my personal favorite, an eccentric dual-part in Coffee and Cigarettes. In prime self-deprecating glory, she played herself and also a cousin who was resentful of her fame and fortune.
According to MovieHole, she has landed another interesting project to help her stretch her acting muscles. She’ll star in Cancer Vixen: A True Story, based on the graphic memoir by Marisa Acocella Marchetto.
The autobiographical Vixen is about a cartoon fashionista for Glamour and the New Yorker, who hits troubled waters in her life. She falls in love with a celebrity restaurateur and begins planning their wedding, when she gets the bad news that she has breast cancer (and after her health insurance has lapsed, no less). With a little help from her friends, she wears fancy shoes to chemo sessions and fights to get married on time.
You gotta love people who laugh in the face of Cancer. If only we could all be so strong at a time of utter crisis.

That picture of her at the Oscars is at least 2 or possibly 3 years old. She wore a metallic gray Armani this year, and was way on her way to being this thin. And she does play the role of a dying patient, so that might be it. I adore her--she's gorgeous and exceptionally talented, plus she has two tons of class over any other Hollywould starlet, but I do hope she regains some sense of normalcy--she looks ghostly AND ghastly here!

According to the Fug Girls (who, unlike some, actually get background on pictures they post), Cate is "gearing up for a role as a cancer patient." Now seriously, US Magazine ... I can't imagine anyone lumping her in with the likes of Ritchie, Olsen, Bosworth, et al: unlike that list, Blanchett is a grown-up, an emotionally intelligent person, in a solid marriage with another mature person, who leads a useful, purposeful life (not to mention: a devoted mother of two).

Yes it does LOOK discusting, that doesn't mean she's discusting. I'm sure this must be for a role, or maybe she's sick. No one normally loses that much weight in two months.
This woman is a professional, I bet she would do anything for a good role. I smell oscar if its true!

It could be just me, but I don't think this is her in this photo. Or they photoshopped the hell out of it. It just doesn't have a "real" vibe to it. At least, I hope that's the case and not that she really is this thin. Very scary.

To lose that much weight in two months, and the pale skin, with the bruising, looks like she has cancer. I hope this is not true, she seemed like such a nice lady, but cancer is the only type of disease that will take you down so fast. HIV, will not even show that fast.

Eww I usually don't believe or agree with Us weekly on anything but she really is too skinny.
No shocker that she would be playing a man though. I always thought she was a bit manly in the face and i don't get the hype about her acting.
