You should watch la vie en rose before making stupid comments. Marion Cotillard won 4 out of 4 major awards (French, British, American). If this was tennis, it would be a grand slam. Something seldom achieved! I did not know her before but she was simply fantastic! Comments on how the winners all had accents and there are missing American actors show just how much Americans deserve their reputation of being self-centered. Start seing what other countries have to offer and maybe audiences will learn to respect other cultures.

Shame on you bloggers! Don't we get fed enough crap and star f@#$ing by the likes of TMZ, US weekly, and reality shows? Your complaint is, what, that you don't get to see enough of Angelia? The Oscars are the only time that the Academy gets to reward quality films instead of the usual cr$p that Hollywood usually churns out. The "problem" is that mainstream Hollywood is not producing good, creative works, and that public's taste is guided by big ad campaigns and a rejection of anything thought-provoking. This year's movie nominees were some of the best that I've seen in recent years. They deserved to be recognized.

I agree with Tom. The reason I can't stand most of those actors is because they forget they are only actors. Dear Actor: Play the role of being grateful for your award, and shut up about your politics. Nobody cares, its annoying when you act like a blowhard, and your opinion is no more important than mine. Get off the stage.

They all use these awards shows to get their agendas out there and I refuse to watch anymore. At least in their movies, they have to stick to the scripts (thank goodness)!

I appreciate that the Oscars are finally awarding talent & creativity, instead of the usual empty star vehicles and bloated budget faux-epics. This year was about substance. Perhaps it doesn't make WATCHING the awards show that interesting viewers who clearly desire films that appeal to the lowest common denominator. However, my understanding was that the Oscars were the chance for the academy to award achievements in film--not to create another media piece to be consumed. True, the Oscars have often been a favored national ceremony. Personally, I'm glad for a return to the spirit of the awards.

The Oscars is going WAY too indie. There were SOME movies that people had actually SEEN with some good performances.

Now actors in Hollywood know the secret. Be in a movie NO ONE will really see and if your a woman get ugly and you'll get nominated. OR just be in a VERY indie movie and you'll get nominated.

I think the ratings bombed because the movies and people nominated were from an obscure field of offerings. Even Juno, the lightest movie up for an award was no where near a blockbuster. And the show itself. I like Heidi Klum - but not the whole show. Same with Jennifer Garner,John Travolta and what is the reasoning for Miley Syrus,Gary Busey,Keri Russell,and the myriad of others that took up the so much time with absolutely nothing of substance to offer. Clooney was okay but he needs to ditch the vegas girl. She diminishes any class eminating from him. Where where the major movie stars? By the start of the show, I was bored.

I think the low ratings were due to the fact that there were no blockbuster movies like The Departed a couple years ago, or Titanic. I didn't watch because I have not seen any of the movies. I live in a small town in Idaho, and unfortunately we don't get first run movies. Juno hasn't even come here yet. Anyway, I just didn't care about the Oscars because of that, and also the stars I like weren't there. Brad and Angelina, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Roberts, Leo Decaprio; I like George Clooney, but not enough to watch the whole long show. I also don't really care for John Stewart as host. Sorry, but Billy Crystal is the best host ever!!!!!

Why was the Red Carpet so unorganized?So crowded,you could hardly see the stars walking through, also seemed to interfere with the interviews!!Too many unknowns hanging around!!And what's with ignoring, American actors??Winners all seemed to have an accent, which I find very strange.People tune in to see the stars,not a bunch of nobodies.And with the carpet being so crowded, it seemed to make it very uncomfortable,for the few stars,that did show up.I'm sure Jennifer Garner wishes she'd gone with Ben.

The reason a lot of people don't go to the movies anymore is because it's no longer entertainment. Nowadays too many of them have social, religious, and political messages, and that's boring as hell. People go to the movies to get away from real life, not to be reminded of it. Remember when Titanic was the movie of the year and had multiple nominations? There were record ratings that night. So many of us are sick of seeing movies with messages when all we really want is to enjoy ourselves and escape from real life for awhile. Plus, in recent years, so many foreigners are winning the awards, and a lot of people don't know who they are. What happened to American movies with American actors/actresses being nominated and getting awards? The academy need to stop with all the foreign nominations except in its proper category.

Movie Star crap, poor movies, and even worse TV. They get paid mega bucks, to do this job and according to Dr's and Hollywood press, most are junkies. Geeze what a life. Maybe it me, but I am so bored of the whole thing.
There is a war going on, young men are fighting for our countries and here we are honoring these idiots. So many of them can't put an original sentence together if left on their own. (eg. late night talk shows). I guess this is
"Welcome to America" anything goes.

No one watches because there weren't any real movie stars there. With the exception of George Clooney, Cate Blanchett, Denzel, Jack and Johnny Depp-there just weren't the big names. Needed Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Leo, Brad and Angelina. Movies that no one saw and too many tv stars makes it a real snoozefest. Plus people don't want the political ramblings by celebrities who haven't a clue what goes on in the real world.
