Patrick Swayze Calls Condition a "Miracle"

Patrick Swayze — who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March — made a rare public outing over the weekend at LAX airport in Los Angeles.

Asked about his health, Swayze, 55, gave photographers a thumbs-up.

"I'm a miracle, dude," he said. "I don't know why."

The actor is currently filming
in Chicago for his new series, A&E's The Beast.

He plays an FBI veteran in the show, slated for the 2009 schedule.

"I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this multi-layered, unpredictable and downright entertaining, as well as a project this current and cutting-edge," he said in a statement.

Shortly after his diagnosis, his Red Dawn co-star Lea Thompson told Usmagazine.com that the actor would put up a good fight.

“I’ve known him for so long, he’s a great guy, and I love him so much,” she said.

“He was such a great dancer,” she added. “He will be resilient — us dancers are tough!”

Patrick, I'm so pleased to hear the news, my husband was diagnosed on 15th February this year just before news broke about you, he's had chemo for three months which showed no spread or increase in size and has just started his next 3 months of treatment, like you he's doing well.God Bless you and your family.

Keep up the good work at fighting this cancer!! I am a dietitian and have seen several people with stage 3 and 4 cancers beat it and you can too!! Eating lots of fruits & vegetables, organic foods, and detoxification will help your immune system more than many people know. Keep up the juicing--it really will help your immune system. I have stage 1 Breast Cancer and Cancer of any kind SUCKS! I give him credit to keep up the fight until the end...For the type of cancer he has he looks pretty good! Just because you get a diagnoses of cancer doesn't mean you give up the fight, I praise him and everyone who has to go through this very ugly disease a thumbs up!

Cancer sucks!! No matter what kind it is!! My wife and I have been going through it now for three years. It started in my joints and through chemo It was cured (or so we thought). It appeared back, but this time in the form of two golf-ball sized tumors in my head. As of right now we are waiting to hear from sloan-kettern in NYC who specialize in brain tumors.
My cancer is non-hogkins lyphomia (stage 4). That extra fat is probably from the drugs he's on. I am on seven different meds (including steriods) and have gained more than fifty pounds. God bless you Pat and keep up the fight...

I hate to be the one to burst everyone's bubble, but his seemingly healthy weight gain is probably related to a medication he is taking. His fuller face does not appear to be the result of healthy normal weight gain. It appears more like the puffiness associated with the use of certain medications including steroids. It is very sad.

however, the stats just aren't with him. Our co-worker's son had this, went to many top-notch clinics (including the one in Texas which treated Lance Armstrong). They, too, called him a miracle and claimed him "cured;" however, it returned with a vengance within a year, and now he's dead.

I hope others have better luck.

I am so glad to hear Swayze is doing really well. I am glad that his diagnosis was caught early same can't be said for my husband's grandma. She was diagnosed with it 2 weeks prior to her death and she was showing all the symptoms about a year before she died.

I am so glad this treatment is working! My mother was diagnosed with this disease at the same time he was and is recovering well! It is so great and I hope he continues to fight it and beat it with my mom!!
