Dr. McDreamy may be checking out of Seattle Grace early this year, thanks to a Writers’ Strike that started early Monday.
Writers in L.A. — where the ABC doc drama is filmed — are expected to picket 14 studios in four-hour shifts from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until a new deal is reached. (Writers are asking for bigger DVD profits and revenue from the distribution of films and TV shows over the Internet.)
“Grey’s Anatomy is not prepared for the Writers’ Guild of America strike,” Patrick Dempsey told Entertainment Tonight in an interview airing Monday. “We are not that far ahead. We have enough show to take us through Christmas, then we’ll see if that’s the end of the season.”
The actor said he isn’t worried personally, but the strike could affect other cast and crew members.
“My concern is not so much for myself because I’ll be alright, but people who are living paycheck to paycheck are gonna be damaged profoundly,” he said. “And I think that’s a real tragedy.”

The only important question in all of this is how is David Simon handling this ordeal. He is the writer AND producer of The Wire. He has other people flesh out episodes most of the time, but they are his arcs. A holdup in the shooting of the upcoming Wire season could actually manage to ruffle mine feathers.
