Actor Patrick Swayze is undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer, his reps said in a statement.
"Patrick has a very limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far," his physician, Dr. George Fisher, states.
The NY Post reported he was diagnosed more than a month ago and may only have weeks to live.
"All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue," Fisher said. "We are considerably more optimistic."
The 55-year-old is best known for his roles in Dirty Dancing and Ghost.
"Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects," his rep said in the statment. "The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family.”
The National Enquirer was first to break the news of Swayze's cancer.

I lost my mom last June to Pancreatic Cancer. It is one of the worst forms of cancer!! It's ugly and very deadly. I pray that you are one of the 5% who make it!!! One of the risks factors in the cancer IS smoking. Although my mom hadn't smoked a cigarette in over 30 years. Her mom passed from the same thing. She never smoked a cigarette in her life. They were both young. 51 and 52. It's very hard to detect, because the symptoms could be symptoms of other things. And the pacreas is hidden from other organs and undetectable with normal cancer screenings!!!
I'm very sorry to hear that you are sick and pray that you and your family are dealing with this and have some sort of support!!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Patrick and his family. I lost my mother to ovarian cancer, my mother in law and a sister in law both to breast cancer and my father to prostate cancer. You are an awseome actor and as many others have stated, Dirty Dancing is my favorite movie of all times. I believe mind over matter really does count. Keep positive thoughts. We sure will. we are all born to die... It dont mean he will die from this. My son is 36 he has it too. they gave him 6 months to live that will be a yr in june of 07. I will say as i say to the Dr's THEY are not God.. My son has it in his liver as well. Im sick of people blaming this on smoking... look to the water we drink and the toxcins in the ground air and what we eat.. we did research this...Patrick i will say to you as i say to my son...ROCK ON......Dont belive what they say all the time...

I just wanted to say that Patrick Swayze and his family are in my thoughts and prayers. I recently lost my father to cancer on Dec 19/2007 and my uncle is also in a battle with cancer. I know the pain that cancer can cause. I'm a big fan of his work, I loved all his movies, he is a great actor. Please pray for him and his family.

pain in the back, extreme, especially at night or when you eat.You have to bend to calm the pain. Imposible to sleep or to eat.
jaundice (sometimes) yellow skin
Caquexia, anorexia, loos of weight

My father has actually pancreatic cancer: yes, its cancer, its terrible, but he´s surviving for more than 7 months without treatment or medical help, or chemoterapy (he´s starting chemo in two weeks, amazing.., 24th of this month) but its no more painful than other devasting illnes. Now whe have morphine or another pain killers that can avoid the suffering in the pacient. All of you dont usually think that all of us are going to die, one day or another. It doesent matter if cancer, or car crash, or heart desease kill us. The thing is nobody stay here for a long time...so, dont make pancreatic cancer a thing more terrible that heart atac, or another illnes.
The fact is that we should enjoy life all time, all moment, all second.

I have a great favor to ask of all of you leaving your comments. Please don't take away Patrick's hope. Hope is the only thing that keeps sick people going. I don't understand the need of people to write comments about him not standing a chance of pulling through this, it is just mean and vicious. There are people who survived pancreatic cancer, it is not just wishful thinking. Why wouldn't he be one of them? I honestly believe we will see more of him in the years to come. Since I heard about this I've been thinking about Patrick every day. I sincerely wish all the best to him and his family. He has had such a big influence in my life and meant so much to me. He is in my prayers. Don't give up Patrick! We love you!

No one is saying that smoking is the SOLE cause of cancer, clearly it's not. But it is certainly a trigger in people with a genetic predeposition. Best wishes for Mr. Swayze because smoker or not, NOBODY deserves to suffer with that disease.

Whether you smoke or not you can still get cancer you know, yea fair enuff smokin increases your chances of getting it but my hubby got it and he neva laid a finger on a ciggie.
