Paula Abdul's wacky antics returned on Tuesday's American Idol.
Judges mixed things up by not critiquing contestants until all five had performed (normally, each contestant gets feedback as soon as they've finished their song).
After each of the finalists sang one Neil Diamond tune, judge Randy Jackson quickly gave his thoughts.
The camera then cut to Abdul.
Shuffling through notecards, the visibly flustered judge offered up her criticism on two songs by Jason Castro.
The problem: He'd only sung one song.
"Jason, first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear, um...." Abdul began.
"The second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn't — it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty."
The five contestants and Ryan Seacrest stood on the stage, baffled.
"The two songs," Abdul went on, "made me feel like you're not fighting hard enough to get into the top four."
Pointing to Castro, Jackson finally spoke up: "That was just on the first song. Just on the first one."
Simon Cowell shook his head.
"Oh my god, I thought you - I thought you sang twice!" Abdul said.
She claimed she got confused by looking ahead at the notes for David Cook.
Cracked Seacrest, "You're seeing the future, baby!"

Ok for those of you out there who don't understand why we, Jason's fans, continue to vote, here it is: We love his voice!!!! Not necessarily his performance but his voice!!!!! Buy the studio version of his songs, they are great. He has the most unique voice I have heard in a long time. It is not his looks, it is his pure voice that gets you and keeps you coming back for more. I will vote for him everytime don't care what they heck yall keep trying to pull to get us to stop, I voted appx 1000 times for him last week and next week my whole family is helping me! Woohoo, go Jason go!!!! We love you!

I think Paula is amazing and you guys should give her a break yeah she messed up but everyone makes mistakes. I love Paula because she always have something nice to say and she been through it all the fame and everything. Simon is okay and he is also funny at times I love him also. Randy is my dog he keeps it real. Everyone should vote for Syesha she is so unique it is crazy. People should vote for Syesha because she is very talented and it seems like nobody notices. She made it to the top 4 so vote for her so she can make it to the top 3 and I hate when I see her in the bottom because she doesn't deserve it. I think Syesha will go home when she makes it to the top 3. I think Jason Castro should go home next week he is cute and have pretty eyes but it is a singing competition not who looks the best. So everyone make sure you vote for Syesha don't worry the two Davids are going to be safe. It was sad to see Brooke leave because I loved her in the beginning when she first made it to the top 12. She would always be on ger piano and kill it. I forgot what song she sang but she kilt it. I mess when Brooke would sing those kind of songs and it seemed like that was her best performance and she never top that performance she did. I hope Brooke good luck and I hope she has a bright future in head of her I will miss you Brooke. I am sorry but it was her time to go. bye bye bye

Don't vote for the two Davids? Bullcrap! It is so obvious they are the best performers on the show. Brook performs like a hippe from the 60's, Jason is boring (when you can hear him at all) and Syesha mimics the songs rather than sing them in her own style. Paula is plastered 80% of the time and wouldn't know the difference between a good song and a howling dog. Randy's only opinion is "a pitch problem". Simon is true to form and the most honest and enlightening of the judges.

Hey guys give Paula a break. We all make mistakes but fortunately are not on live TV being viewed by millions while we do it. Its time Jason went home and Brooke too. I am still disturbed that Michael is gone and I hated to see Carly go. Hang in there Paula, we still love you.

Paula is either on alcohol or drugs OR she is one of the idiots of the world. The disclaimer on tonight's show about how it's not fixed sounded VERY weak. I think the network execs knows that Paula must go and it sounded like they were paving the way for her demise. One can only hope.

the contestants feel better when they get a bad
review from Simon and sometimes Randy.

I think its time for Jason or Brooke to leave, preferrably Brooke. I really don't care for their performances lately, while I like the other 3's performances. Syesha stepped it up nicely when needed and I think she has done great. I think Simon was off the mark when he said to Syesha, last night that she might be in trouble, she has clearly improved. She may not end up being the idol but at least she didn't mess up her words like Brooke did two times! Bye bye Brooke! Oh, I think Paula is popping pills! America isn't stupid you know.

Sadly, Syesha will probably be the one sent home (based on popularity) but it SHOULD be Brooke or Jason Castro. I love Jason but for the last few weeks...he's been a little off and fans have still been voting for him because he's cute. This should be a singing competition but it's really not. I hope to see Syesha, David Cook & David Archuleta in the top three and then both guys battle in the top two spot. David Archuleta will win the show. However, I think David Cook will be the bigger recording artist.

Jason Castro sings the same things every week too. I think the reason you dont hear people say that about David Cook is because he always puts a new twist on the song. Jason Castro, and I do like him, sounds boring...almost like he is afraid to sing something exciting and fun.

Without question, Jason should not have to go tonight. He was wrongly critiqued and it would be unethical and therefore unfair.
Fox news is correct in that she saw the rehearsals, but that doesn't justify her blatant error. As someone posted, DON"T vote for either of the Davids. That will even the playing field for this time.

Paula Abdul has shown why she should be fired from American Idol. We need another Simon-like judge that is honest with the contestants and tell them the truth when they suck, not coddle their ego for a bad performance.
Abdul has continued to show America that she is a stark raving idiot. She showed America this during her own failed reality show and continues to show her raving stupidity on "Idol" as well.
Most of the time she doesn't know what she is talking about and when she does talk she does not have a coherent thought in her head. You want to boost ratings, get rid of Paula. Her 15-minutes would have been over had it not been for American Idol to resurrect your career from the ashes.

I have been a fan of Idol, and have come to realize...Paula needs to go! She really has no idea what these contestants need, and she says the SAME THING after every performance. They need to get someone in there that really knows music and has something worth listening to. Paula always seems like she out of it...all the time. She never knows what she wants to say, and when she does speak, it's always the same thing!

I noticed too that she wasn't very excited about the second song when she first said it about Jason, but then when she said it was for David by mistake and suddenly said "Fantastic" that didn't really match what she just said about it. I also don't buy her whole "you only sang once?" crap because, hello, are you blind? There was a break, David Cook came onstage, how could you not notice that?
FOX news said the reason was because the judges had heard the rehearsals or sound checks or whatever so they've already heard both songs. I don't think they should be judging on sound checks. Brooke White could've done a beautiful job on her sound check last week, but then starts over in her actual performance! You have to judge on the actual performance, because if they can't perform on live TV they'll never make it as an American Idol. I also think the judges should only judge on the actual performances, so that they only get to see the same thing America does. American doesn't get to see rehearsals.

The show has just lost its credibility.......makes you wonder if Paula saw Jason sing the songs previously, had pre-determined notes before the show started, etc. Has me wondering if Idol is fixed. She is wacky and always seems "out of it".....what the heck is up?

I LOVE Paula! She is sweet, and nice and fun. But she does seem like she is either VERY flaky, or has a drinking/pill problem. I don't know what the real deal is so I'm trying not to judge. But she does exhibit some strange behavior from time to time.
At least she is always positive though!

See, the david cook thing woud explain it.. except for the fact that she went on to pour praises on David Cook's "fantastic" performance after claiming her second, lackluster comment was intended for him.
I think the producers have in mind who they think will make them the most money and do what they can to sway america's votes... including directing the judges to say certain things.
