How arrogant of the media to assume that we need this information during a time of war! I understand he is royalty, but that is no excuse for possibly putting his life in danger!!!! Prince Harry is on a plane out of Afghanistan, a source told Usmagazine.com.
"He has left the base and is en route to another location," the source told Us.
The 23-year-old royal has been serving there with British troops since December, it was reported today.
"We will not comment on the whereabouts of Prince Harry," a Ministry of Defense spokesperson told Us.
Defense Secretary Des Browne told Us in a statement, "I am delighted that Prince Harry has had the opportunity to serve on operations in Afghanistan with his Battlegroup. In common with all the other British soldiers in Afghanistan he has done so with courage and distinction. We can be proud of him and all his fellow soldiers - we owe them all a great deal. The British media have shown great restraint in not reporting his deployment and I would like to thank them for doing so. It is however a great pity that the news has now been broken by media overseas."
In compliance with the Ministry of Defense, Us Weekly participated in a reporting embargo on Harry's deployment but the news was widely posted after an item on the Drudge Report.

this is horrible. im from america but im living in london now. i dont really care about the royal family or anything but this was serious intlligence information that could have threatened many lives. the british media is pretty crappy and deplorable, opting to publish exaggerations and naked ladies in most major tabloids as opposed to actual news but as least they respected this info.

Prince Harry should be very proud of himself, as should all of the other persons serving in this war. His family and friends should be extremely proud to call him part of their family/friends. The thing that amazes me is that he is 3rd in line to be KING and he is serving with people like you and I. He is not afraid to get right in there and fight right along with the rest of the men and women. I give him and all of the others praise for putting their lives on the line to protect us and our country, along with many others. God Bless and may you all get home safely.

US Weekly acted responsibly by not reporting on it originally, and as a veteran, I appreciate that. But once the story broke somewhere, there is no controlling where it goes. You can't blame US Weekly for that.

Well, I am all for freedom of the press, that's what makes our country free. In case you forgot, freedom of the press is a constitutional right in the U.S. I am sorry the media reports of where the Prince is has caused problems, but the media solves MANY more problems than it causes. Without freedom of the press we would be a totalitarian government. You all blame the media for being money hungry wolves, but you fail to see that the media, whether it be US mag, or the Washington Post is responsible for us being a free country. The media holds business, gov't and society responsible for their actions. I thank God everyday for the freedom of the press. This is what America's founding fathers wanted. Any suppression of the press b/c it's a "time of war" is just an excuse for the government to try to control it's people and become a dictatorship.

They should never have let this leak out. I agree. Good for the UK for keeping this under wraps. When a bond if formed like a band of brothers then I am terribly sorry this happened to the prince. I understand soldiers do not want t o leave their fellow comrades and I can't imagine William would be any different. I bet Kates kinda happy ;). He wasn't a security threat until someone leaked it.

Ugh, the fact that some media outlet reported this was just stupid and thoughtless. They didn't just put his life at risk, they put the lives of all around him at risk as well. I never cared where he was, and this was one instance where we just didn't need to know.

I can see where Judith is going with this. It is not about Harry, it is about the to report it regardless of what could happene. Peoples lives are at risk over there and by the DRUDGE REPORT doing what they did they put all of our men and women in danger over there. there are some of us that have been over there and I am sure it is not the last time....so until you have suited up and served over in that region.....well, you know what you can do..

It sickens me the way the media has this obnoxious competition to be the one to break a major story, even at the risk of the lives of others. Prince Harry is representing his country on a mission most of us could never take part in, yet the media has to run interference to make a name for itself. The British press is known for its coverage of the royal family, and even they managed to keep their big mouths shut. Congrats to the foreign press for cutting short his dream of serving his country simply to break a story. We're proud of you Harry, and your mom would be too.
