Prince Harry has been serving with British troops in Afghanistan since December, it was reported today.
The 23-year-old royal — who is living and working in an army base in the Helmand province — is engaged in a four-month tour of duty.
"I finally get the chance to do the soldiering that I want to do," the prince said ahead of his deployment, the BBC reports.
The prince, who has received training from the Blues and Royals, was set to serve in Iraq last year, but his trip was canceled after it was deemed a security risk.
Reporting on Harry's deployment was embargoed but the news was widely posted after an item on the Drudge Report.

Umm, but the British forces or media did not reveal where he was serving. I believe the Drudge Report, whcih broke the story, is an American website?

I agree, I think it was irresponsible of the media to break the black out. He would have been fine, if no one knew he was there. Now it not only puts Prince Harry at risk but those around him at risk. While I wish he wasn't so keen about putting himself in harms way, I hope he does the best job he can and comes home safely.

No really, 4:40, 3:35 is right - that was an idiot move on the British press' part. He's not on his way home - he is now being MOVED so he doesn't get hunted down and killed in Afghanistan, since the world knows he's there thanks to them.
The US Armed Forces and press are actually pretty good at keeping these types of things under wraps...it is not at all comparable with tragedies like friendly fire. This was the PRESS' fault, not the military.

I typically do not write on blogs, but reading the comments of Anon 3:35 made me really mad...to Anon 3:35's stupid comments....the American army has done many stupid things....including firing on its own troops in Vietnam and in Iraq, by accident. Do some research or READ the article before making blanket statments. Prince Harry is ON HIS WAY HOME AFTER SERVING SINCE DECEMBER. WHO IS HE PUTTING AT RISK???? At least British Royals serve their country (and, may I add) American interests with bravery and pride...there are many deadbeat children of the wealthy in America who get out of serving in the armed forces. Britain has been a solid ally of the USA in all of its endeavors, and we do not need to read ignorant statements like this.You people have no respect for anyone outside of this country.

I think our government could take a lesson from the idea that this sets. The British are not beyond letting their children serve in wars they get themselves involved in. If they truly believe in what they are doing over there everyone including their own are candidates to get deployed. It is sad that our government is so quick to enlist and send everyone else's children to go over there but they wont send their own. Good for Harry for believing in something and sticking to his beliefs.

It's really irresponsible for the media to alert the world to this. Just because the Drudge report stupidly leaked this information doesn't mean that every other media source should jump on the bandwagon. That could put his life in danger by making him a target for assassination and it puts the lives of every member of his unit in danger. Not cool at all.

Anon 1:06 He may not even get to serve 4 months, now that it has "leaked" almost exactly where he is at. I can't stand when the media covers sh!t they know they shouldn't. He's been in Afghanistan only 2 months but may now have to leave for safety issues. I admire him for wanting to serve. My son went to Kuwait for 6 months last year but has to go to Iraq for 12 months this April.
