William and Kate's Cozy Weekend With Charles and Camilla
Monday October 15, 2007
![]() www.bauergriffin.com Kate Middleton got the royal treatment with boyfriend Prince William over the weekend. The on-again couple spent a few days bonding with Charles, Prince of Wales, and Camilla, The Duchess of Cornwall, at the Queen’s 50,000-acre Balmoral estate. On October 13, Kate joined 58-year-old Prince Charles, for rifle practice on the estate grounds. "She was wearing the correct gear for a beginner, all dressed up in winter camouflage,” says an eyewitness. “She wasn't firing at any live animals, she was just practicing with targets.” The onlooker added: "Charles was watching her and offering words of encouragement." Later, Kate left Charles to join William, 25, and his friends, who were deeper inside the estate, for William's deer-stalking party. Though there was furor in Monday’s papers about Kate being an animal "killer," a royal source tells Usmagazine.com, "Kate would not have been expected to shoot any deer. She was merely practicing. She would have joined the hunt, but generally the men tend to take over on these occasions." Adds a Kate pal: "Kate's not the kind to kill an animal. She's a strong woman and I know she would have politely declined if she was asked to do so." When asked about the trip, a royal spokesperson gave Us a firm "no comment," before adding: "What the Royals do on the Balmoral estate is a private matter."
