Prosecutors refused to drop driving without a license charges against Britney Spears on Thursday.
Her lawyer Charlie Unger had pleaded that Spears, 26, "seems to be getting her life together. She has nothing on her record other than the infraction-type tickets we all get."
But Los Angeles city attorney Michael Amerian said Spears' hit-and-run charge had already been dropped from the incident last August when her Mercedes hit a parked car.
Pursuing the driving without a license charges, Amerian argued, is "the fairest way to treat her. [We're] not affected by her celebrity status."
The case will continue June 18.
Spears' attorney, Unger, told Access Hollywood, "We’re still hoping we can work this all out."

You people are not very informed.................

Obviously you do not know the law. You can have dual residency, but when you live primarily in one location for over 30 days, you need a drivers license for that state. California is her primary residence. She has lived there for over 8 years. Louisiana is her second residency. Go re-read you drivers handbook!!
I THINK EVERY ONE NEEDS TO STOP COMMENTING ON BRITNEY SPEAR'S LIFE IT RIDICULOUS. ITS NOT OUR PLACE TO JUDGE. SERIOUSLY ALL THESE NEWS REPORTERS REALLY DONT UNDERSTAND HOW STUPID THEY REALLY LOOK GETTING ALL EXCITED WHEN THEY GOSSIP ABOUT HER DAILY ACTIVITIES. I DO NOT DISLIKE BRITTNEY SPEAR'S BECAUSE I DO NOT KNOW HER. ALL EVERYONE HEARS IS HERSAY. NOTHING IS ACCURATE. SO STOP BEING NOSY AND LEAVE HER ALONE. DAMN. PEACE AND LOVE MAN PEACE AND LOVE.
You people are not very informed as to what the infraction was in regards to the drivers license. She has a valid drivers license from her home state. She also owns a home in Louisana which makes her a resident. It is not as clear cut as to her needing to get another license for California. Ignorance of the law is not a defense but, is understandable why she might not of known better. She certainly does not deserve these abusive comments. Give the kid a break.
The woman has mental issues. She seems to think celebrity status puts her above the law and makes any and all of her behavior excusable. The average person would have been dealt the consequences as she deserves to as well. She needs the help that she so denies....she is one screwed up person. I do not feel sorry for her losing her children one bit what kind of example is she setting for them? Her ego is far too inflated and although the press constantly hounds her if she'd act more like she had a functioning brain and gave them less to get excited about they'd lose interest in her. The behavior she exhibits attracts attention so what does she expect...she's like a three ring circus. It's time she gets her act together and stop acting like the spoiled b**ch she is and for goodness sake admit you need mental help. It isn't going to go away all by itself....it's time for her to grow up and take responsibility for her actions and stop making a spectacle of herself. What you sow is what you reap and that goes for her as well.
She is a citizen like every body and must pay for her faults
I m choqued to know how you can imagine that celebrity statut can save her from responsabilities.
i understand how she lost her kids's custody.
she escaped from her reponsabilities, perhaps she taught that her celebritie'satut can save her.
She have to go back school to learn that she have to have licence for driving.
Great! If she's doing so much better, than she can certainly be held accountable for her actions.
I want to stick up for Britney on this one, but I happen to agree with most here. Britney isn't above the law and she deserves to be punished. You cannot drive around without a license and expect to get away with it. The same infractions would be put upon us if we broke the law, so she should be held accountable also. What does that say when celebs get away with things? It says one thing, "they're celebs, so it doesn't matter.." but when it comes to you, me, or your mother, we're held accountable for our actions. We'd have to face time in jail, so should they. You just can't let these celebs pay a fine and let them walk away. They are human just like us. They walk, talk, poop, eat and sleep just like us, just because they have more money in the bank doesn't mean they're better than us. I'm happy that Britney is trying to get her life back together, but her lawyer using that as an excuse so the charges can get dropped is pathetic. I'll make sure to tell the judge that when I get in trouble..."You see Judge, I have my life back together, so I don't think I need jail." Everyone around the United States will surely use that excuse, and when the judge throws the gavel at you and says thats dumb, than you can tell him, "Well, Britney Spears used it...Why can't I?" You see what I'm saying..??
Britney is NOT above the law and she DOES need to be held accountable for her actions.
WHO CARES IF SHE IS A SO CALLED "CELEBRITY", WHEN SHE DIES God WILL hold her accountable for ALL of her actions, just like he will with everybody else.
Im fed up with this already. Dont the police have anything better to do then hound Brittney Spears. Im sick of it already !
SHE HAS OWNED PROPERTY, MARRIED, GIVEN BIRTH AND LIVED IN CALIFORNIA FOR YEARS WHILE DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE.
SHE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HER ACTIONS AND TOTAL DISREGARD FOR THE LAW. SHE HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH FAR TOO MUCH BECAUSE OF HER CELEBRITY.
to Anon 9:54am: "They" did not do this to her, BRITNEY did this to her. In the same way that there are natural laws to ensure the running of the universe, there also are laws set in place to protect and uphold society. When those laws are ignored, chaos ensues. Britney, thinking that her celebrity deemed her more important than us mere "mortals", chose to disobey the law. It's HER fault.
Yep can't drive w/out a license! Only like when your 15 then u can! hahaha!
why do they keep doing this? she has had enough days in court. our judicial system is so annoying. "Man is free, but everywhere he is in chains."- Rousseau
Whether she goes to jail for a little while or fined, the hit-and-run case should be handled accordingly, anybody agree?
In my opinion, the prosecutors are right, just because Britney Spears has celebrity status, doesn't mean she'll be let off the hook that easily, she should be treated like any other person would be treated! Hey, her hit-and-run charge was dropped, so she's lucky she doesn't have to deal with that!
Little late!
first?!
As they shouldn't!! She is bipolar, that does not affect her in driving. If it did, nobody with bipolar would be allowed to drive.
