Reese Witherspoon was born in New Orleans in 1976. She grew up in Nashville and Germany, where her father was stationed as a surgeon for the military. Witherspoon left Stanford University after her first year and has become one of Hollywood’s most bankable leading ladies. Witherspoon met Ryan Phillippe at her 21st birthday party. After they co-starred together in Cruel Intentions, they married and have two children, Ava Elizabeth and Deacon.The couple separated in October 2006. Since August 2007, Witherspoon has been dating Jake Gyllenhaal, her costar in 2006's Rendition. Witherspoon and Phillippe's divorce was finalized in June 2008. Beginning at the age of 7, Witherspoon was modeling and appearing in television commercials. During high school, she appeared in The Man in the Moon, Jack the Bear and A Far Off Place. Witherspoon left Stanford University to focus on expanding her career with strong roles in Pleasantville, Election and Cruel Intentions. Witherspoon’s career was upgraded with the great success of Legally Blonde in 2001, which increased both her box office draw and her standing among critics. Witherspoon then starred in a sequel to Legally Blonde and led Sweet Home Alabama. The part of Johnny Cash’s wife in Walk the Line earned her an Academy Award for best actress in 2006. In 2008, Witherspoon starred in the modern-day fairy tale Penelope costarring Christina Ricci. The movie was produces by Witherspoon's production company, Type A Films. Later, in 2008, Witherspoon is set to star in a remake of the 1939 comedy Midnight.
