Actress Bai Ling Arrested for Shoplifting

Actress Bai Ling — recently named one of Us' Worst Dressed at the Grammys — was arrested yesterday for shoplifting.

Sergeant Jim Holcomb of the Los Angeles Airport police division, tells Usmagazine.com: "Bai Ling was arrested Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. for shoplifting at the Crews of [California] gift store located in terminal one at Los Angeles International Airport.

"A private persons arrest was made by a store employee after Ling allegedly took two Star magazines along with two packs of triple A batteries totaling about $16 and left the store without paying.

“LAX airport police transported Ling to Pacific Station, where she was booked for misdemeanor shoplifting and released on her promise to appear in court on March 5, 2008.

“Ms. Ling was cooperative throughout the process. She was held for a couple of hours. There was no mugshot."

TMZ.com, which first reported the story, said Ling, 37, was "crying."

Holcomb adds: "I suppose anybody would be upset, but she wasn’t combative or anything like that.”

She messed up! Give the girl a flipn' break!!! As a police officer I think the Airport Police Department did her dirty!!!!!! She stole aprox $17 worth of items. Why was she not cited for violation of 490.1 of the California Penal Code which is petty theft less than $50. I cite people for petty theft all the time. Booking Bai was uncalled for. The only time an officer books a suspect is when they do not have any identification on them. I'm pretty sure Bai had some form of ID on her since she made it through airport security. The other reason a suspect gets booked instead of cited is refusal to sign the citation, which Bai did not do. So.... Airport P.D. You suck!!!!

how nice! a celebrity who makes more money than most of us will ever see, shoplifting to increase prices for everyone else! their punishment should be twice as harsh being a celebrity and having enough money to buy what they want and need and the rest of us having to live paycheck to paycheck just to keep ourselves and our families clothed and fed!!!! they should get harsher punishment for driving under the influence as well, having enough money for a driver but being stupid enough to get behind the wheel rather than call a cab or a driver.

I'm not shocked. I think almost everyone shoplifts at some point in their lives. I did when I was 8-yrs. old. I knew better. I remember even at that age how embarrassing it was so can't imagine what Bai is feeling right now. And poor Winona -- it was almost the end of her acting career she was so mortified. Obviously both Winona and Bai could afford the items but that's not what shoplifting is about. Well, probably some percent is because the person is poor but there are a million other reason's people shoplift. Some simple, some not so simple. What I always wonder is how come people can get away with cheating on their taxes. Nobody even blinks at that but somehow shoplifting is never ever acceptable.
