FACEBOOKI think it's nice of him to pay their salaries. It's not like he's the one striking and causing them to lose their jobs, it's the writers - hello!! I think they deserve to have a cut of the internet money too, but their decision is proving to be quite costly to everyone else who's lower on the totum poll. True, the shows wouldn't be what they are without the writers, but they don't get made without the folks who are getting canned in the process...

Jay Leno is trying to ease the blow after laying off some 80 Tonight Show staffers Friday.
He will pay their entire salaries at least through next week, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Though Leno had assured his staff job security throughout the ongoing writers' strike, he shocked them at a Friday staff meeting when they were told they were being laid off. They were also told there were no guarantees they would get their jobs back once broadcasting resumes.
"Some people were crying. Some people were screaming," one employee said.
Executive producer Debbie Vickers began calling laid-off employees to give them the new salary news Saturday, according to the Reporter, and is expected to continue making calls throughout today.

I thought the writers had to strike because they're in a union? Maybe I'm wrong but I was under the impression that you had to strike if your union did. It's wrong to not lay that out on the table before they went on strike that there was a strong possibility of getting laid off. I don't like Jay Leno anyhow. I've always found him to be a rather arrogant guy who thinks he's much funnier than he is. I love Conan though. He's hilarious. I have yet to not laugh once during one of his shows.

The studio's not going to pay the staff for doing nothing. You don't have a show, you don't need a staff. It's as simple as that. I don't see how it's Jay's fault. He has job security because he's a famous face, but he's not working on that show right now either. That's why the writer's strike needs to be resolved. Too many people are suffering because of it.

that's bs. Leno could have put a lot of leverage on the situation by alligning himself w the rest of the staff, and that quite possibly would have a made all the difference in their decision. They're not going to fire Everyone/him..also it would have drawn more pub to the situation had he supported them ON time..and even in the case that his support wouldn't have swayed their decision, it would have still been the right thing to do...and the porker wouldn't even have had any neg effects from it (which i'm sure is all thet he's concerened about)..most decision aren't made in 1 instance, but there's a lot of fact gathering and weighting etc involved int he forefield..and tha's where Leno could have made all teh diff, even if the final dec is up to the studios.

What a nice thing to do! This is not Jay Leno's fault, but he is nice enough to take away from his own salary to pay theirs, yes he can afford it, but its the fact that he choose to do it.

lol..oh i forgot one: the imperative to be funny..but you really can't avoid that here bc it's just how things are set up..there's no social fiber of decency..then pple have to obsessively preach morality to try and make up for the lack of it..and that on its own is so funny that any 'jokes' derived from that tension can't fail..hence, all comedians are rude bricks & can't let go of ..in Europe there's not much tractio for that kind of 'dark/rude humor', bc we don't have a problem w decency etc..get it..Leno is a perfect exple for this, esp w that flag on his collar..lmao..

well, the most important thing is that he can continue to enjoy his vintage car collection..paying the salaries doesn't make up for firing them at all..but, it actually doesn't surprise me too much..i never liked Jay Leno..he seemed to not really enjoy his job, but just doing it for the money..i like Letterman better..besides, he's a 'comedian'..so pple should expect that he's ruthless, and that he'll want to break any social norm/decency bc that's what he thinks is "funny"..not too original..
