Last night's top 12 results show was highly predictable, except for the fact that Sanjaya is still sticking around. The only good thing about the episode is that it was only 30 minutes long. Now, that's something to sing about!
First things first: enough with the cheesy choreography in these group performances! The kids are here to sing, and some of them can't even do that. Speaking of Haley, did anyone else catch wind of the glitch that caused her and Sanjaya's microphones to lose sound for a split second or two during the group's pitiful rendition of the Supremes classic "Where Did Our Love Go?" It was like watching one of those old-school kung-fu flicks where the voice dubbing kicks in seconds after the actors' mouths start flapping.
As Ryan Seacrest announced in a hurry that Brandon Rogers and Phil Stacey - wait, what? - were in this week's bottom three and the crowd boos subsided, Miss Ross took the stage and failed to live up to her legendary status with a painfully boring performance of Spiral Staircase's "More Today Than Yesterday." Simon looked like he'd rather watch paint dry.
We were then shocked and awed when 28 million voters decided to keep Sanjaya and send Brandon packing instead.
Even though we didn't expect to say goodbye to Brandon so soon, the singer took his ouster - which he had an inkling would occur this week - in stride and had nothing but good things to say about his Idol experience when chatting this morning with KIIS-FM's Seacrest.
“I went first on Tuesday and forgot my words – that was sort of the nail in the coffin," the singer says. "I went first and was followed immediately by Melinda. I think it had more to do with my song selection throughout the competition. I never really picked songs that showcased my voice and showed me off they way the judges and the public wanted me to.”
We're glad Brandon exited like a true idol, but our questions about Sanjaya's fans still remain: who exactly is voting for this kid and how many phones do the extended Malakar family own?!?!
