When I married, I changed my last name because that was (expected) tradition. Immediately, mail started coming to "Mr. and Mrs. John Doe." After children, we often were identified as "The John Doe family." It takes two to make a family. Where's my name in either address?

I changed my last name, but I didn't change or eliminate my first name.

What husband would take his wife's name? Can you imagine any man accepting being known as Mr. Sally Smith?

Can't we address couples as John and Sally Doe or use Mr. John and Mrs. Sally Doe?

If you want tradition, "women are first." Why not Sally and John Doe? Mrs. Sally and Mr. John Doe?

Not that long ago, women were not allowed to vote. When that was in the process of changing, some people said it shouldn't happen because it was "tradition." We look back on those times and realize how stupid that thinking and tradition was, and we women are grateful to the intelligent men who promoted our equality. Without men's approval, women still couldn't vote. Who would agree to that "tradition?"

If women choose to take their husband's name at marriage, at least let those women retain their first name. Please, at least use Mr. John and Mrs. Sally Doe.

Sarah Michelle seems like an AMAZING wife. Ive seen interviews with Freddie where he says that she's always thinking about little things that will make him happy(apparently he does the same for her). I personally dont care about the last name debate(my wife has kept hers, and she was initially inclined to change it, I refused-though I dont think there's anything wrong with either option)
Yet, I find the hyphenation a half-hearted marriage fad...typical of this society where marriage means very little. Get a divorce, hey, just drop the hyphenated name, no harm done. This one seems like the worst of all 3 choices.
Still in this situation, she did this as a way to show him how much she loves him, Im sure he wasnt even thinking about it. Thats a healthy relationship. One where people are thinking about how to make the other one happy.
Last, for those who claim that taking the man's name is too traditional or old-fashioned, remember, marriage IS a traditional, old fashioned institution. Im not saying that a woman MUST do it, but it is part of the wedding tradition(in this culture at least) so it makes more sense to do it than not to.

I love Sarah and I was NOT expecting her to do that AT ALL. Haha she's kinda like the tough, female model but hey, if she did it then good for her. They are actually one of the very few couple in Hollywood still together and they are adorable.

Can't wait for a baby. He/She is going to be GORGEOUS!
