After exercising her unalienable right to (allegedly!) bash a housekeeper over the head with a crystal-studded BlackBerry, Naomi Campbell joined human rights activist Nelson Mandela at a charity event in Johannesburg, South Africa this weekend. The New York Daily News reports:

Campbell arrived in Jo'burg on Sunday with the best of intentions — promoting UNICEF projects. But an insider tells us: "[Mandela] is obviously incredibly embarrassed by Naomi's latest scandal. I'm sure they would have called off the meeting, but she was already on the plane. Plus, it would have caused more attention to cancel it." […]

Aside from confirming that Mandela met with Campbell and producer Quincy Jones, reps for the UN and the Mandela Foundation declined to comment. […]

She's expected next month at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala. Although she's due to sit at the table of co-host Anna Wintour, one source says, "I suspect Anna is nervous."

Now there's a conversation we'd pay to sit in on: "Don't worry, Naomi," the Vogue editor told the supermodel. "Matching chunky silver bracelets with links joining them together are supposed to be so huge next season."
