This is so true. I'm in my 30's now, but when I was in my 20's, me nor the friends I hung out with, went out drinking. There are plenty of ways to have fun and enjoy your youth without drinking.

Honestly, if you can't think of a way to have fun without getting drunk, I'd say that YOU'RE the boring one.... and nobody is saying that drinking shouldn't be done. It's just there is so much pressure for young people to get out and get wasted in order to have the "ultimate" college experience, and quite honestly, it's pretty stupid. Nobody NEEDS alcohol to have a fulfilling young life. Alcohol is just a DRINK, and this society is placing far too much importance on it. Besides, I'm not a huge fan of waking up the next morning with a massive headache and feeling nauseous. This doesn't mean I don't like drinking. Go ahead and have a drink if you want(I like having one here and there). Just don't be stupid and think that you "need" it to have a good time. And also don't think that you "need" to get drunk to be the life of the party. If you do..... then you're not really an exciting person if the alcohol has to do all the work for you, are you? And for god's sake.... DON'T drink and drive. Being twenty-something years old is no excuse, in fact this is the time you should be beginning to learn to take responsibility for yourself. Don't take the risk, because you could really ruin your own life or somebody else's, or both. You really don't want to do that.

And by the way.. how freaking fast was that BMW going to run an red light and be able to roll a huge solid F150 quad cab truck twice with the force of hitting it broadside?

I know they ticketed the driver for running the red light, but did they test him for drinking and driving? Speeding and running red lights at 2 am?

all of yaw needta shut up and stop hatin on him and sayin mean things...he drank and drive...ive done this...how do we even know he was trashed? do u know his bac? no and he probably wouldve made it home ok if the other damn car HAD NOT HIT HIM. it wasnt his fault...who hasnt drove when they were buzzed? if u say u havent ur lying or one of those overly religious ppl...im not justifyin what he did...cut him some slack. hes 22. yes an adult by law...but really just a kid...stop hatin...

The kid messed up and he's not an alcoholic. It's not like he killed someone. You know what, ok yes, you are right. He messed up, he's probably not an alcoholic and he didn't kill anyone. Still he very well could have killed someone including himself. He's a kid and kids drink and drive all the time...well that's why the stats on drinking and driving deaths of young people are so high. No one is saying Shia is a bad person, but he is making bad choices. I hope he is not an alcoholic or that he is not heading in that path. He needs to be extra careful though because addiction does run in families and as much as he might want to be different from his father, he might not be able to help it. He needs to understand that his actions have consequences and that he got very lucky that he didn't kill anyone or cause any great harm to anyone. He is a young person with money. I think he can afford to hire a driver or take a taxi. I really like Shia, but my 8 year old is a huge fan of his and these are not the stories I want him to see about someone he idolizes. I hope this is the last run in with the law he has and that this is as bad as it gets. Shia is too talented and we don't need to see another tragic end to anyone's life or career.

I think that it's his Dad's fault that Shia's a alkey... I mean, if my dad was a heroine addict, I would drink a lot too.

This guy is so cool. You dont have to have a good time to drink, just drink and party. Badass!

I don't have an opinion about his drinking, but the kid most definitely could use some quality time in therapy.

1:57, I don't think anyone here is calling Shia an alcoholic. I think they are commenting on the fact that he said he cannot have one drink. That is a symptom of alcoholism.

No one can tell another they are alcoholic, you have to be true to yourself and discover if you are, or aren't.

I can't help but want to defend Shia - everyone on this board is quick to name him an alcohol abuser based on a DUI and two half-sentence quotes that probably were taken out of context.

Driving drunk was absolutely unacceptable, but I think it's unfair to label him as an alcoholic, especially since to do so you would have to base your conclusion on speculation at best.

And, I'll get hated on for this, but I agree that he's just being a "twentysomething." How many of you never drank just to get drunk, or couldn't stop at just one drink?

People that don't know how to have one drink & stop shouldn't drink at all. I know, I'm one of those people. I quit about a year ago. Now, I can have one and quit. But I think you have to lose your taste for it first. My advise to Shia.....quit drinking or hire a driver when you go out.

People make mistakes. I have a friend who has been arrested for a DUI. I dont agree with it at all but I also dont think we should hang him and black list him for a mistake. lets wait and see if he learns from it. One thing I do hate about drinking and driving is your not only harming yourself but whoever is out on that road around you. That is not fair. Hopefully people will start waking uP!

I think he should go to a therapist or do something that can help. drinking/drug addictions can run in someone's family so when they have those substances, they'll react really nasty to it. I don't think everyone should make a big scene out of it like he murdered someone. We're all human even celebrities, and instead of making the situation worse, people should try and help.

You don't have to drink daily to be an alcoholic. And not everyone who drinks daily IS an alcoholic.

People who blackout, have personality changes while drinking (Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde), who CANNOT simply have one or two drinks, who think about alcohol constantly, these are people who show alcoholic potential and may be alcoholic already or it may take 30 years to become full blown alcoholics.

Either way, even if YOU don't understand it or "buy it" these people are endanger of crossing a line. It is safer for these types not to drink.
