Dance Dish: Did America Get It Right?
Friday June 22, 2007
![]() Kelsey McNeal/FOX Let’s get real, So you Think You Can Dance fans: here at Us we have a love/hate relationship with the series. We hated last seaon’s Travis Wall-Benji Schwimmer showdown that left us torn between our favorite dancers in the finals. Now, with season three in full swing, we’re loving the fact that the majority of dancing duos are mismatched, allowing for favorites to be clearly chosen in the early weeks. Congrats to Lacey Schwimmer - yes, she’s Benji’s sis – and Kameron Bink for already winning our hearts. This week’s “And All That Jazz” Broadway number choreographed by Tyce Diorio oozed sexuality and the couple’s chemistry was spectacular. However, while Lacey and Kam quickly danced to the top of the ranks, many other pairs, including Faina Savich and Cedric Gardner, crumbled under pressure. Ballroom dancer Faina shined during this week’s Fox Trot routine, clearly outperforming her partner. It was clear the couple would land in the bottom three, but color us surprised when, even after judge Mia Michaels called the performance one by “Ginger Rogers and an insecure Michael Jackson,” it was Faina who was sent packing while Cedric survived. Power couple Shauna and Jimmy successfully hip-hopped their way through a routine that tested both of their abilities to interpret a new style, but while Shauna got the crowd pumped, Jimmy didn’t fare as well. We loved him, but America sang a different tune and showed the Miami contemporary lyrical dancer the door on Thursday's results show. First we lose Ricky and now Jimmy? Say it ain't so! Next week, in addition to a performance from Fergie, our sweet sixteen will endure critiques from dance legend Debbie Allen. Sure, it’s great to have weekly live performances and guest judges, but all we ask is that we get a solid scream out of Mary Murphy. Just once, Fox, that’s all it takes for Us! She wouldn't be our summer Paula Abdul substitute without it. Talk to Us: Which dancing duo is your favorite this season?
