Work that shine, girl! Ruth Negga hit the 26th annual Gotham Awards on Monday, November 28, in NYC, with glossed lips — and we’re not talking about your frosted middle school style.
The Loving actress, 34, modeled an elegant burgundy pout with just a touch of sheen, which popped against her black Givenchy column gown. “The dress was so classic and feminine, so I complemented it with a feminine yet modern look,” celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis told Stylish. “I wanted to bring gloss back to the red carpet, so I gave her a deep berry, glossy lip paired with winged liner and dewy skin.”

To create Negga’s kissable pout, Inglessis applied a thick layer of Chanel Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care “to keep her lips soft and moist for the lipstick,” she explained. Inglessis wiped off the excess, then grabbed the Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Rouge Noir, which she used as both a liner and a lipstick. “The trick to nailing this is to keep the tip of the liner blunt, rather than pointy, to fill the entire lip,” she told Stylish. To finish, Inglessis added Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss in Distinction, a rich wine hue.
Of course, she didn’t stop there. The makeup artist, who also works with Natalie Portman and Amber Heard, bronzed Negga’s cheeks with Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base, topped with the label’s peach-hued Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick in No. 22 on the apples. Inglessis used the gold shade from the Chanel Ombres Lamées de Chanel on the inner corners of the Preacher actress’ eyes and along her brow bone for a slight sparkle, and accented her doe eyes with Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner, winging out the ends.
