As This Is Us becomes television’s most addictive new drama, Stylish takes a look at leading lady Mandy Moore’s most unexpected hair and makeup moves
Beauty of the Day: 5 Secrets to Mandy Moore’s Style
This is now. Once known as one of the hottest pop singers, Mandy Moore has come into her own and shown the world she’s got some serious acting chops, playing matriarch Rebecca Pearson on NBC’s breakout hit drama This Is Us. On the show her character spans 30 years. So it’s not surprising that Moore tells Stylish she credits the “wisdom and free-spiritedness that comes with age and time” for her killer style now at age 32. “When I was 22 I was always a mess going to events,” she admits. Certainly not a mess now! At the Alice + Olivia Fall 2017 fashion presentation on February 14, Moore paired simple center-parted pulled back hair with poppy-red lipstick because she “thinks a pop of color can go a long way. That’s why I love a lip, or a shoe, just the right touch."
How low can she go? At the 2017 Golden Globes Awards, Moore hit the red carpet in a navy caped gown by Naeem Khan, literally cut to her navel. Perhaps as a nod to This Is Us’ opening decade, she rocked ‘70s inspired hair and makeup. “Think Lauren Hutton’s ’70’s gala vibe — cool, yet sultry,” her hairstylist Ashley Streicher says. Streicher’s sister Jenn did Moore’s makeup, focusing on a retro beige lip, achieved by mixing three shades of Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lip Colours — Indiscretion, Embrace and Aroused to achieve “the ultimate nude pout."
Choosing to wear a marigold halter-style ruffled gown by Prabal Gurung, Moore lit up the 2016 Emmys red carpet. She chose soft curls to play up the ‘70s “Parisian glamour” of the gown according to hairstylist Jenny Cho, keeping hair soft to go with that “vintage vibe.” Makeup artist Molly Stern went along with the story, painting retro glossy coral lip.
