Syesha Mercado Releases Single on iTunes
The Top 3 contestant's duet with jazz musician Boney James hits the web while she's still in the Idol running
The American Idol finale is still a week away, but top 3 contestant Syesha Mercado is getting a jump on the competition by releasing an Internet-only single via iTunes.
Partnering with two-time Grammy nominee Boney James, Mercado released "Gonna Get It," this week, just shy of Idol’s May 21 finale. The upbeat jazz tune – written by James and Rahsaan Patterson, was recorded in August 2006 — prior to the 21-year-old Florida native’s time on the Fox series — according to a spokeswoman for James’ Concord Records label.
How does the Idol favorite rate as a duet partner? "The first time I saw Syesha perform, I was incredibly impressed,” James said in a statement Tuesday. “'Gonna Get It' seemed like a perfect fit for her. I'm really proud of how well she's doing on American Idol."
On this week’s performance round of idol, Mercado and fellow contestants David Cook and David Archuleta are set to sing three songs each: one selected by Idol judges, one by show producers and one of their own choosing.
