Hillary Clinton to Appear With Barack Obama

They will meet together publicly for the first time since he won the nomination

Hillary Clinton will join Barack Obama next Friday for the first time since she dropped out of the Democratic primary and he secured the nomination.

Details about the appearance were not given in an e-mail sent by the Obama campaign that announced the joint event.

Clinton ended her campaign on June 7. "I endorse him and throw my full support behind him," she said at the time.

Obama tells Us Weekly in its new issue, on newsstands now, that his wife Michelle is an "extraordinary mother" to their two daughters, Malia, 9, and Sasha, 7.

"Nothing is more important to Michelle than being a good mother," the Democratic presidential nominee tells Us. "She works every day to instill in our girls the same values we were raised with."

Journalists and politicians are reacting to the untimely death of Tim Russert on Friday.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama:
"He's somebody who, over time, I came to consider not only a journalist but a friend. There wasn’t a better interviewer in TV, not a more thoughtful analyst of our politics, and he was also one of the finest men I knew."

Republican presidential nominee John McCain:
"He was truly a great American [and] he was just a terrific guy. I was proud to call him a friend, and in the coming days, we will pay tribute to a life whose contributions to us all will long endure."

President Bush and Laura Bush:
"Tim was a tough and hardworking newsman," they said in a statement. "He was always well-informed and thorough in his interviews. And he was as gregarious off the set as he was prepared on it."

Former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton:
"Always true to his proud Buffalo roots, Tim had a love of public service and a dedication to journalism that rightfully earned him the respect and admiration of not only his colleagues but also those of us who had the privilege to go toe to toe with him. In seeking answers to tough questions, he helped inform the American people and make our democracy stronger."

Former Vice President Al Gore:
"The U.S. and the world have a lost a great journalist, interviewer and author. He was an original and will be greatly missed."

Barbara Walters:
"There is no one who knew Tim, and that includes millions of Americans who felt they knew him too, who isn’t deeply shocked and saddened by his death. Tim was everyone’s idea of what a journalist should be and he made us proud. He interviewed me just one month ago for his weekly television show and much of our conversation had to do with his love for his father, Russ, and his son, Luke. The one-time democratic hopeful will give a speech on Saturday

Days after Barack Obama clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, Hillary Clinton has announced she'll endorse her one-time political foe.

"I will be speaking on Saturday about how together we can rally the party behind Senator Obama," Clinton said in an email to her supporters on Thursday.

"The stakes are too high and the tasks before us are too important to do otherwise," she added.

Clinton, who won nearly 18 million votes in the primaries, did not earn enough delegates to secure her party's nomination after Tuesday's last round of contests.

In her speech in Washington D.C. on Saturday, Clinton will "extend [her] congratulations to Senator Obama and [her] support for his candidacy," she said.

"I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise," Clinton added.

Aides for Clinton have said she would be open to being Obama's vice president.

"I think this is a great movement in American history," Kate Walsh told Usmagazine.com Wednesday. "The American people want a change in their government and Barack Obama is the best person to lead and serve and bring about the real changes people want. I am thrilled."

The actress' rep tells Us a new Vanity Fair article implying a tryst is "a lie and it is irresponsible"

Former President Bill Clinton and actress Gina Gershon are slamming a new Vanity Fair article that implies they had an affair.

In a story titled "The Comeback Id," National editor Todd Purdum — who is wed to former Clinton press secretary Dee Dee Myers — writes that Clinton's personality has changed since his 2004 heart bypass surgery and that there were reports of President Clinton "seeing a lot of women on the road."

He writes that, according to "recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip ... Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California."

Gershon's rep tells Usmagazine.com: "Todd Purdum's insinuation is a lie, and it is irresponsible journalism. We are demanding a retraction."

(A rep for Vanity Fair tells Us: "Todd Purdum’s article does not indicate that former president Bill Clinton had an improper relationship with Gina Gershon. The story merely examines the concerns of some of Clinton’s aides about reports of his behavior. We don’t believe that any correction is warranted.")

President Clinton also denied the claims, calling Purdum "sleazy" and a "scumbag." ("He's one of the guys that propagated all those lies about Whitewater for Kenneth Starr," Clinton said. "He's just a dishonest guy — can't help it.")

He also told the Huffington Post that the article is an attempt to discredit his wife Hillary Clinton.

(A rep for Hillary's campaign has since apologized, saying that President Clinton used "inappropriate" language.)

Purdum defended himself on CNN , saying he was "very careful to say there is no clear-cut evidence that President Clinton has done anything improper."

"I reject the notion that I'm making an insinuation," he added. "But I'm very comfortable quoting the people I quote because I know who they are, and I know that they are very senior people who have known President Clinton for a very long time and work for him at very high levels."

John McCain joked about choosing his running mate on Comedy Central's Daily Show Wednesday night.

"Listen, I know you've been wondering who my vice presidential candidate is going to be," the presumptive Republican nominee told Jon Stewart. "I've got it written down. You ready?"

"You heard it here first: Dwight Schrute" – The Office character played by Rainn Wilson, McCain quiped (watch above).

"That is pandering of the highest degree!" Stewart replied.

Stewart told McCain that Hillary Clinton should be his running mate. "You would win this election," he said.

"That's one I never contemplated," McCain responded.

McCain also jokingly stood up to walk off stage when asked to repudiate President Bush, whom Stewart compared to Barack Obama's controversial former spiritual advisor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

"I am going to run a respectful campaign," McCain pledged. "I respect both [Clinton and Obama]."

The senator read the show's Top Ten list Monday night

Days after Barack Obama vowed on the Late Show with David Letterman "to stop the fighting between Lauren and Heidi on The Hills," it was Hillary Clinton's turn at the Top Ten list Monday night.

"Thanks to the Internet, I can order new pantsuits 24/7 – there’s your pantsuit joke, Dave. Are you happy now?" the senator read as the eighth point on the Top Ten reasons she loves America.

Clinton's appearance came on the eve of Tuesday's hotly contested Democratic primaries in Indiana and North Carolina.

Hillary Clinton said she was "sorry to hear about" Star Jones' divorce from Al Reynolds.

"I wish them both well," she told Entertainment Tonight Thursday (watch above).

Clinton recalled attending their wedding in 2004.

"It was a beautiful wedding in one of the great churches in Manhattan," she said. "Star looked beautiful... It was a very happy event."

Clinton also said she wishes First Daughter Jenna Bush "well" on her May 10 wedding to fiancé Henry Hager.

"It is hard being in that spotlight," she said. "She and her sister have become extraordinary young Americans."

The presidential hopeful says it's an "honor" to be related to the actress

Hillary Clinton is "thrilled" that she could possibly be related to Angelina Jolie and Madonna – reportedly two of her distant cousins.

"I have no idea whether there is any truth to it or not, but they're both strong independent women," she told Access Hollywood Friday.

"They also have been very quick to give back to charities and humanitarian causes, so it would be an honor to be related to them," she added.

Jolie frequently speaks out for humanitarian causes and penned an op-ed about her trip to Iraq in February. Check out her recent travels here.

Clinton – who spoofed herself on the Colbert Report Thursday – has shared her worst outfits of all time with Us.

They appeared on Thursday's Colbert Report

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama poked fun at themselves on Comedy Central's Colbert Report Thursday night.

As host Stephen Colbert expressed dismay over a malfunctioning video monitor, Hillary Clinton stepped onto the stage to solve the problem (watch above).

"Wow, Senator Clinton, you are so prepared for any situation!" he said.

"I just love solving problems," Clinton responded. "Call me any time. Call me at 3 a.m."

In a separate segment of the show, Barack Obama, Clinton's opponent for the Democratic presidential nomination, appeared via satellite for an interview (watch below).

"Stephen, I think the American people are tired of these political games and petty distractions," Obama said.

Colbert replied, "Sir, speaking for the news media, we are not tired of it."

Former presidential candidate John Edwards made a brief appearance on the show, which was broadcast from the University of Pennsylvania ahead of the state's primary on Tuesday.
