Kathy Griffin, Brooke Shields and others tell Us how they're gearing up for tonight's big show

Celebs are gearing up for tonight's Emmy Awards.

"You can expect me to do my part, and then I will be home to watch the rest of it in my pajamas before the next commercial break," presenter Oprah Winfrey told reporters Saturday at the Presenters Gift Lounge at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. "That’s what you can expect!”

Kathy Griffin -- who picked up the award for best reality program for her Bravo hit My Life On the D-List at last weekend's Creative Arts Emmys -- wants to bring her trophy to tonight's show.

“I know it will look tacky and I’m not supposed to, but I really want to," she told Usmagazine.com. "I want to throw [it] at Ryan Seacrest for no other reason."

Kidding aside, she added: "I am still shaking to be presenting with Don Rickles.”

The highlight for Brooke Shields?

"I get to get dressed up!" said the star, who plans to wear Badgley Mischka. "I‘m looking forward to the great categories and great people."

For the first year ever, the show will give an award to the best reality show host. All five nominees -- Seacrest, American Idol; Tom Bergeron, Dancing With the Stars; Howie Mandel, Deal or No Deal; Heidi Klum, Project Runway; Jeff Probst, Survivor -- will share hosting duties.

“Honestly, we have realized that having five people try to agree on anything is really difficult,” Probst told Us. "The jokes come out and one guy likes it and the other guy doesn’t.

"For a guy who makes his living studying human nature, this has been a fascinating experience in human nature!” he said.

Said Bergeron: “It’s probably going to be the last year they have five hosts. It’s like trying to herd cats! It’s tough, but it’s going pretty well.”

First the Lipstick Jungle star needs to "convince" her husband

Brooke Shields has two daughters, but she's ready for a son.

"I want a boy!" she said at the Prada Trembled Blossoms event in Beverly Hills Wednesday.

Standing in the way? Chris Henchy, her husband of six-years.

"I'm going to have to convince him and he's a hard sell at this point," the Lipstick Jungle star, 42, said while laughing. "Maybe he likes the even number!"

Shields is already mother to Rowan, 4, and Grier, 23 months.

Tom Cruise might have been the last person Brooke Shields expected to see at her kitchen table after their public feud over postpartum depression exploded last year. But on August 31, there he was in her home.

“He gave me a heartfelt apology,” Shields told Jay Leno on The Tonight Show last week. “And I accepted.”

"His friendship with Ms. Shields has been mended," Cruise's rep confirms to Us.

So why did Cruise have a change of heart? One obvious reason: He needs the positive PR. But damage control for his recent career crisis may not have been Cruise’s main motivation.

Several sources say that ever since his fiancée, Katie Holmes, 27, gave birth to their daughter, Suri, in April, the actor has gained a new appreciation for the struggles of motherhood.

“Watching Katie opened his eyes and made him better understand and communicate with her,” says an insider. After all, this was the first pregnancy he’d observed (he adopted son Connor, 11, and daughter Isabella, 13, with ex Nicole Kidman, 39).

“Katie’s ordeal really gave Tom a reality check,” says a source. “He never had to deal with anything like that before. Now he is a changed man.”

**Tom Cruise** regrets lashing out at Brooke Shields in interviews with the Today show and Access Hollywood last year, according to Kathleen Kennedy, the longtime producing partner of Steven Spielberg.

Kennedy told the New York Daily News that Cruise realizes he went too far when he bashed Shields for taking antidepressants to fight postpartum depression. (Shields later fired back at Cruise, defending her choice in a New York Times editorial.)

"That, he deeply regrets," Kennedy said.

The producer also said that many in Hollywood were "shocked and dismayed" earlier this week when Sumner Redstone openly criticized Cruise's behavior over the last year.

Kennedy also denied rumors from last summer that Spielberg was incensed that Cruise's relationship with **Katie Holmes** overshadowed publicity for his film "War of the Worlds."

"It's not true," Kennedy, who produced the movie, told the Daily News. "[Cruise] was a consummate professional. He's done nothing wrong."

Spielberg is a Paramount powerbroker, but he "had no advance knowledge of Sumner Redstone's position," rep Marvin Levy said yesterday. "The story broke when Steven was on an airplane. He found out when the plane landed," Levy confirmed.

The Spielberg shutout surprised Hollywood insiders who thought that Spielberg's position as head of Paramount-owned DreamWorks Studios would have warranted a heads-up on the situation.

God and/or L. Ron Hubbard sure has a sense of humor, doesnâ€™t He? How else could you explain yesterday's simultaneous births of Brooke Shieldsâ€™ daughter, Grier, and TomKatâ€™s baby girl, Suri, both at Saint John's hospital in Santa Monica, California?

Shields and Tom Cruise, if youâ€™ll recall, had quite the squabble last year (carried out the new-fashioned way â€“ through print and television media) after the Mission: Impossible 3 star lambasted the actress for using prescription anti-depressants following the birth of her daughter Rowan in 2003. The Associated Press reports:

Appearing on NBC's Today show, Cruise said there was no such thing as chemical imbalances that needed to be corrected with drugs, and that depression could be treated with exercise and vitamins.

Shields called the remarks "a disservice to mothers everywhere" and said the drugs helped her survive feelings of hopelessness after the birth in 2003.

"I'm going to take a wild guess and say that Mr. Cruise has never suffered from postpartum depression," she wrote in an op-ed piece in The New York Times last July.

Suffice it to say that there probably wonâ€™t be any joint birthday parties going on in the future. In fact, weâ€™re predicting some pretty fierce turf wars at the Beverly Hills Chuck E. Cheese. (â€œOkay Grier, Iâ€™ll give you the entire area from the mosh pit of colored balls to the Skee-Ball alley, but everything from the tube slides to the creepy animatronic band is mine!â€) The next 18 years should be fun, no?
