Last season's finalists tell Us what they love about the summer show

While it remains to be seen if season 7’s American Idol finalists can dance, one thing is for certain: they love to watch others try on So You Think You Can Dance. Usmagazine.com caught up with fan favorites Ramiele Malubay, Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns and the American Idol himself, David Cook, to get their take on front runners, Nigel Lythgoe’s dance moves and more!

Usmagazine.com: What is your favorite part of the series?
David Cook: [I watch] more to see Nigel’s reactions more than anything else. I’m glad he’s not judging us!
Ramiele Malubay: We would have been totally screwed!

Us: How would Idol have been different if Nigel and Simon Cowell were on the same judging panel?
DC: There would have been some fatalities [if Nigel judged us on Idol]. I think they're both very strongly opinionated but they're blunt and honest.
Michael Johns: Those two egos can't coincide on the same panel! There would have been nipple cripples and ear pulling. I can imagine Nigel would be twisting Simon's nipples and Simon would have Nigel's ears shouting, 'what you doing?'

Us: Do you have any current favorite dancers?
Kristy Lee Cook: I love Twitch and Kherington.
DC: I think my favorite dancer so far this season is Nigel!
RM: Nigel [visited] when we were having finale rehearsals and he’d come from auditions for SYTYCD. He would just start busting some really weird moves.
MJ: Once you've got the dancing abilities of someone like moi, what have you got left to learn? I don't want people who think they can dance, either you think or you know!

Idol's David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell Hide Out at Dodgers Game

A source says the two were "nervous" about making a public outing

New American Idol couple David Cook and Kimberly Caldwell put in a low-key appearance at Tuesday's Dodgers game, where she performed the National Anthem.

They sat in the private Baseline Box seats (near the new Baseline Box Club) and enjoyed Wolfgang Puck-catered food.

"Kimberly was definitely nervous about the public appearance!" a source tells Usmagazine.com. "They were really cute and sweet together, laughing and having a lot fun."

Adds the source, "The players on the field totally checked her out when she was walking to sing!"

The couple managed to escape being shown on the famous Dodger Vision video board.

A source tells Us that Caldwell said she was concerned about her privacy, adding that her boyfriend didn't want any more attention as he just won American Idol.

"She's great," Cook recently told Extra of Caldwell. "So far, I've had a really good time with her."

Idol's David Archuleta Inks Record Deal

He says his debut album (due this year) is "a dream come true"

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta has landed a record deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, a label rep announced Thursday.

The 17-year-old — who will perform on the upcoming Idol tour (kicking off July 1) — will release a debut album later this year.

"Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true," he said in a statement. "Being a fan of American Idol since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I'm really excited to start working on everything."

Meanwhile, Archuleta's plan for a charity "fireside chat" in Salt Lake City, Utah – his homestate – was rejected, the Salt Lake City Tribune reported.

Tickets for the event, scheduled for Friday, didn't even go on sale before the gig was nixed because of "contractual obligations" for the singer to appear only in Idol-approved shows.

"They're just going to reschedule the event for a later time," dad Jeff Archuleta told paper. "When all the minds met, everyone concluded this wouldn't work out for this particular weekend, and they just want to reschedule it for toward the middle or the end of the [American Idol summer] tour," he said.

Proceeds were to be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Make-a-Wish Foundation.

After losing out to David Cook on the May Idol finale, Archuleta told Us, "I was pretty sure Cook was going to win anyway!

"I didn’t think I’d even make it past the first round!" he said. "This has been such a blessing."

Season 7 American Idol winner David Roland Cook was a rocker way before making it onto the reality competition show. Although he has had no formal training, the Texas-born singer/songwriter considers himself "lucky" when it comes to his vocal talents. In his first band, Red Eye (later renamed to Axium), he was the singer and guitarist, but the group just bounced around a few indie labels and never hit it big. After moving to Tulsa, Okla., Cook joined another band called the Midwest Kings and began working on his solo record Analog Heart. While competing on Idol, the performer also was looking for love. He was spotted flirting with So You Think You Can Dance competitor Lacey Schwimmer early in the season, but is currently dating season two Idol contestant Kimberly Caldwell.

"We'll probably hang out again," he tells Regis and Kelly

American Idol champ David Cook and season two alum Kimberly Caldwell are making sweet music together.

On Tuesday's Live With Regis and Kelly, he revealed that they recently went on a date after meeting through the hit Fox show.

Asked if he had a good time, Cook, 25, said, "I did. We'll probably hang out again. So we'll see."

Of Caldwell, 26, Cook told on Monday, "she seems like a really great girl," adding that he hopes their friendship "will be a little bit of a long, drawn out process."

"His response was, 'I hope you and your worthless retarded father get cancer and join your stupid mom." Their ongoing war resumed Wednesday when Richards – whose reality show premieres this weekend – claimed on the Today show that Sheen faked e-mails from her that asked Sheen's fiancee, Brooke Mueller, for his sperm. - Pregnant Angelina Jolie and beau Brad Pitt continued to sweep the Cannes Film Festival. 40 Million Viewers Tuned in to Last Five Minutes of American Idol

The show beat last year’s finale by 10 million viewers

More than 40 million people tuned into to watch the results of the David vs. David battle on American Idol Wednesday night.

The rest of the two-hour show saw an audience of 31.6 million.

(This year's finale also beat 2007's Jordin Sparks vs. Blake Lewis showdown, which 30 million turned in to watch.)

In a surprise victory, rocker David Cook beat baby-faced David Archuleta for the title — despite Simon Cowell predicting it would go the other way.

But Archuleta told Usmagazine.com after the show that he "was pretty sure Cook was going to win anyway!"

"You know, he's such a great guy," Archuleta, 17, added. "I'm so glad that people really appreciate what he'd been doing because he put a lot of work into this."

After Wednesday night's teary announcement that Cook had won (watch the video here), the Missouri native was at a loss for words.

"This is amazing — thank you!" he said.

David Archuleta says he wasn't shocked when his name wasn't called on Wednesday's American Idol finale.

"Oh, I was pretty sure Cook was going to win anyway!" he told Usmagazine.com after the show. "You know, he's such a great guy. I'm so glad that people really appreciate what he'd been doing because he put a lot of work into this.

"He's been my role model," Archuleta added. "Just a great person to look up to. He's been my big brother through this."

After Cook won, "I just said I'm so proud of him, that he'd earned it," Archuleta said.

What did Cook say to him?

"He just said, 'I love you,'" Archuleta said. (See his baby photo here.)

Archuleta also said his father, Jeff — who has been portrayed by some media outlets as a demanding stage dad — was pleased with his second place finish.

"My dad just let me know he's so proud of me," he said. "He's really happy too.

"He was just always there to remind me what music meant, the real depth to music and what it does to reach people's lives," he added. "And my whole family has helped me stay who I am, helped me not change through this."

Archuleta - who will perform in the Idol tour this summer - said he thanks "all the fans who helped me make it this far. I didn’t think I’d even make it past the first round! This has been such a blessing."
