Newly engaged Scarlett Johansson says falling in love has a lot to do with timing.

"You don't always meet the right person at the right time," she tells the August issue of Cosmopolitan.

Adds the 23-year-old actress (who romanced Josh Hartnett and Jared Leto before fiancé Ryan Reynolds): "It's important for people to figure out their own lives before involving someone else — to gauge where you are and work on your own issues."

Johansson also clarifies her 2006 comments in which she said that people aren't monogamous by nature.

"I don't think it's a natural instinct for human beings," she tells the magazine of monogamy.

She adds, "Monogamy can be hard work for some people. I don't think it applies to everybody, and I don't think a lot of people can do it."

But Johansson (who showed off her engagement rock from Reynolds in May) insists, "I believe in finding a soul mate. I've always been in monogamous relationships. I would never want to be in an open one. It'd be too awful."

Barack Obama has downplayed his "email relationship" with Scarlett Johansson – and says the actress doesn't even have his personal address.

Earlier this month, Johansson claimed to have a "personal dialogue" with Obama.

She told Politico: "You'd imagine that someone like the senator who is constantly traveling and constantly 'on' - how can he return these personal emails? But he does, and in his off-time I know he also calls people who have donated the minimum to thank them."

But Obama told reporters Tuesday that "she sent one email to [my assistant] Reggie [Love], who forwarded it to me.

"I [wrote] saying, 'Thank you Scarlett for doing what you do,' and suddenly we have this email relationship," he explained.

A new trailer for He's Just Not That Into You hits the web

In a new Yahoo! trailer for the romantic comedy He's Just Not That Into You (based on the best-seller), Jennifer Aniston and her on-screen beau Ben Affleck debate whether they should get married.

Ginnifer Goodwin awkwardly flirts with a guy, Drew Barrymore gets dissed by a dude (in front of her co-workers!) and Scarlett Johansson goes skinny dipping.

Aniston's flick is set to be released the same day as Angelina Jolie's drama The Changeling.

Pal Elizabeth Banks tells Us she asked if his engagement to Scarlett Johansson was a joke

Ryan Reynolds' pal Elizabeth Banks says he announced his engagement to Scarlett Johansson via text message!

"I texted him to say, 'Are you really engaged or is this a joke?'" she told Usmagagzine.com at the Alexander McQueen flagship boutique opening in West Hollywood on Tuesday.

"And he said, 'Yes, we're really engaged!'" added Banks.

Banks, who co-starred with Reynolds in Definitely, Maybe, is currently filming the President Bush biopic W is Shreveport, Louisiana. (Check out pics from the president's daughter's wedding here.)

Johansson, 23, and Reynolds, 31,, announced their engagement on May 5, the day the actress flashed a three-carat diamond ring estimated to be worth about $30,000 at the Met Costume Ball Gala.

"I missed my chance!" Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick lamented at Monday's Costume Institute Gala in NYC

Newly engaged Scarlett Johansson showed off her round, white diamond ring from Ryan Reynolds at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala in New York City on Monday.

Wearing an ivory D&G dress, the actress, 23, was escorted by designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. (Reynolds, 31, was in Boston filming the aptly titled comedy The Proposal.)

On her way to the bash, she hugged Aussie actress Naomi Watts, who couldn't help but notice Johansson's glow.

"You look gorgeous!" Watts told her.

Though Johansson skipped press, her colleagues couldn't stop gushing.

Her Lost In Translation director, Sofia Coppola, wished the star "congratulations.

"That's great news!" she told Usmagazine.com.

"I'm really excited for her!" actress Amanda Peet told Us. "They're both genius actors, and she's friend with my friend. Yay!"

Added designer Marc Jacobs (who has worked with the actress), "I'm really happy for her. If she's in love, that's great. I just hope that she's happy and wish her all the best."

Not everyone was psyched the actress was getting hitched.

"Damn, I'm very disappointed!" Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick joked to Us. "I missed my chance. That boat has sailed."

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are making it official!

Johansson, 23, and Reynolds, 31, who have been dating since Spring 2007, are engaged, their rep confirms to Usmagazine.com.

Reynolds was engaged to singer Alanis Morissette. They split in February 2007 after four years together.

Johansson was previously dating Josh Hartnett.

In February, it was reported that the actress was seen shopping for wedding dresses at a Monique Lhuillier boutique in L.A. with her mother and sister.

But her rep told Us, "A family member is getting married, not her. She is not engaged."

Scarlett Johansson is no cheap date.

A man from the U.K. placed a winning eBay bid of $40,100 to join her at the L.A. premiere of He’s Just Not That Into You this June.

Proceeds go to charity Oxfam America.

The 10-day auction began March 2, with a starting bid of $1.

Johansson, who is currently dating actor Ryan Reynolds, plans to release a Tom Waits cover album in May.

The actress is up for grabs in a charity auction

Here’s your chance to date Scarlett Johansson!

The Other Boleyn Girl star is auctioning a date with herself online to raise money for Oxfam.

The eBay auction, which launched this morning, so far lists the highest bidder as $10.50.

The winner gets to attend the L.A. premiere of Johansson’s movie He’s Just Not That Into You with the star in June. They'll get a chauffeured car for the event and take home a hand-written note from the actress.

Other celebs are getting in on the action for Oxfam too.

Kristin Davis is auctioning off two tickets to the June Sex and the City movie premiere in New York and a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes.

Colin Firth listed two VIP tickets to the premiere and after party of Mamma Mia in London this July, and a personalized birthday video greeting, which he’ll tape.

Firth’s auction ended yesterday with a winning bid over $8,000.
