Season five’s 16 designers debut first runway looks in the July 16 episode

And we’re back! After months of uncertainty of whether will-they, won’t-they bring Project Runway back to Bravo or move it to Lifetime, the season kicked off Wednesday with a new crop of designers – and a whole lot of the same old-fashioned drama!

This year’s designers – with backgrounds including punk-retro with a twist of avant garde– moved into New York City’s Atlas apartments ready for their first challenge. The season’s first surprise? The challenge’s field trip wasn’t to Mood Fabrics, rather Tim Gunn led the contestants to....a supermarket! With $75 in hand, the Runway 16 scattered the store to find materials to create their first garments. Cue a traffic jam in the tablecloth aisle!

Not unlike the season one challenge in the same vein – won by Austin Scarlett, who guest-judged this week – the garments created were more often than not run of the mill designs. Keith opted for a black and white checkered party dress, while others like Wesley supplemented their tablecloth with flyswatters and other household items. Their tricks weren’t lost on the judging panel, though - Gunn and Co. especially lamented Jerry’s shower curtain raincoat. Michael Kors’ verdict? It’s a “handiwipe gone wrong!”

In the end, it was Jerry who was left to dodge the raindrops as he packed up his Parsons sewing kit for good. Other personalities to watch? Tanorexic twenty-something Blayne, who deems his creations “girlicious,” and Jerell, this season’s Tim Gunn impersonator.

Heidi Klum's tip for losing that pesky baby weight?

Be realistic.

“I always think, 'Look at how people were before they were pregnant,'" Klum, 34, says in June's Marie Claire. “If you were a toned, healthy, energetic person, most likely you will be like that again."

Klum rocked a bikini two months after welcoming her second child, Henry, in a 2005 Victoria's Secret fashion show.

"A lot of people come to me, and they’re like, ‘Will I look like you after I have the baby?’" she added. "And I say, ‘Well, how were you before?’" she says. "You can’t kid yourself.”

As a mother of three — Leni, 4; Henry, almost 3; Johan, 18 months — Klum insists fitting into her skinny jeans is no longer a priority.

"I always wanted to be a mom," says Klum, who was honored as Style Icon of the Year at Us' Hot Hollywood Awards. "At Thanksgiving, I have my parents there, I have screaming kids, I have a big fat turkey - 18 pounds - sitting in the middle; legs are being ripped off that thing, you know what I mean? There’s life in the house.

"I don’t want to be wondering about how skinny I am, wondering what I’m going to eat because I don’t want to gain and I want to look hot and young, always and forever," she adds.

Her husband Seal also helps her keep things in perspective.

She met the singer in NYC's Mercer Hotel in 2003 when she was five weeks pregnant with Leni (her daughter from a previous relationship with businessman Flavio Briatore).

The next year, he popped the question atop a glacier in the Canadian Rockies. (They wed in 2005 in Mexico.)

“He took me by helicopter,” Klum recalls. “He had an igloo built there, and they’d brought up everything: a bed with sheets inside the igloo, rose petals everywhere, candles.

"There was food and champagne," she goes on. "It was a little scary, too, because you’re so cut off from the world. No trees, nothing ... but I was ecstatic.”

They joined Gerard Butler, Danity Kane and the Dancing With the Stars crew

Lauren and Heidi partied together last night in Hollywood.

Lauren Conrad and Heidi Klum, that is.

The two were among the throngs of celebs — including Gerard Butler, Danity Kane, Nicky Hilton, Rumer Willis and Conrad's former fling Stephen Colletti — who hit Us Weekly's Hot Hollywood bash at Beso restaurant Thursday.

Clad in Catherine Malandrino and Christian Louboutin shoes, Conrad (who arrived with pal Lauren "Lo" Bosworth) said she opted not to wear a piece from her new collection.

"I’ve been wearing it every single night so I was changing it up tonight," she told Usmagazine.com.

Conrad stayed close to Bosworth at the bash — at point she told her, "Don't lose me!" — but she also had some face time with Spencer Pratt's sister, Stephanie.

(So where were Heidi and Spencer? "I think they missed their flight," Stephanie told Us. "I was going to come with them!")

The Hills cast weren't the only TV stars at the bash.

The Dancing With the Stars crew — including Cheryl Burke, who wore Eduardo Lucerno, and Karina Smirnoff — also boogied.

Klum — Us' Style Icon of the Year — wore a dress designed by last season's Project Runway contestant Rami Kashou.

Of being honored, Klum told Us, "It’s a great compliment to my whole team. As you know, everyone who sets foot on a red carpet does not get dressed and do their hair and makeup by themselves!"

Of course, the night wouldn't have been complete without a fashion emergency.

Lisa Rinna told Us she initially planned to wear a white frock to the bash.

"We went to our store, and he decided to touch up the counter with a little pen, and I went up against the counter and the black pen came off on the white dress!" she said.

"I had to pull this right off the rack at Belle Gray [her L.A. clothing boutique]!"

Luckily, all ended up well.

"Everybody told me this looks better than the white dress," Rinna said. "Everything always works out."

She parts ways with the fashion magazine

Elle Fashion Director Nina Garcia, best known as a Project Runway judge along designer Michael Kors and host Heidi Klum, was fired from her post at the magazine, Usmagazine.com learned on Friday.

Elle did not return calls for comment.

Her biography on Bravo's website describes her as working "closely with top designers and stylists and pinpoints the trends of the season in her monthly mission to develop the ultimate look book and shopping guide for stylish women around the globe."

The Colombian-born fashionista got her start in the 1990s working in the PR department at Perry Ellis. She became the fashion director for Elle in 2000.

Her dismissal was the second surprise related to the Emmy-award winning show this week. On Monday, NBC Universal, Bravo's parent company, filed a lawsuit trying to keep the huge hit from moving to Lifetime in the fall.

Project Runway May Move to Lifetime

Bravo is suing to stop the hit show from jumping networks

Project Runway's sixth season will be seen on Lifetime unless Bravo wins a lawsuit to keep its hit show.

After Lifetime announced that The Weinstein Co., which produces Project Runway, signed a five-year deal to switch networks beginning in November, Bravo's parent company NBC filed suit in New York Supreme Court claiming they did not have a chance to avert the deal, Variety reports.

Unless NBC halts the deal announced Monday, Lifetime also secures other Weinstein projects, including a possible Project Runway spinoff, according to Variety.

Bravo still has the rights to air the fifth season of Project Runway, the premiere of which is now unknown.

Christian Siriano Wins Project Runway

Judge Victoria Beckham told him his collection made her smile

Talk about fierce: 21-year-old Christian Siriano was crowned the youngest winner of Bravo's Project Runway Wednesday night.

Jillian Lewis, 26, was the first to be dismissed last night; Rami Kashou, 31, came in second.

Siriano wowed the judges with his dramatic and elaborate collection, which featured skinny trousers, big belts and a two-tone feathered gown. (Click here to see his winning designs.)

Using his trademark phrase on the show, host Heidi Klum told Siriano, "You're uber-fierce!" after his win.

"You have a flair for the drama," said judge Michael Kors of the Annapolis, Maryland, native, who won $100,000, a 2008 Saturn Astra and a spread in Elle magazine, as well as an opportunity to sell his collection on Bluefly.com.

But the real praise came from guest judge Victoria Beckham, who told Siriano his collection made her smile.

"I would be honored to wear any piece of your clothing," she said.

What's next for the designer?

"I'm, like, really excited but, let me tell you, I am taking, like, a vay-cay. I need a breaky-break," he said in a post-show interview.

"This won't be the last of Christian Siriano. I mean, people need to see more of the fierceness."
