Sen. Ted Kennedy Released From Hospital
Wednesday May 21, 2008
![]() Jonathan Ernst/Getty Images Sen. Ted Kennedy, who has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, was released from the hospital on Wednesday, a day earlier than expected. Kennedy, 76 — who was admitted Saturday after suffering a seizure — "has recovered remarkably quickly" from a brain biopsy Monday," his doctors said in a statement. "He will return to his home on Cape Cod while we await further test results and determine treatment plans," they added. "He's feeling well and eager to get started." As he left Massachusetts General Hospital (amid heavy security), he waved to fans and gave a thumbs-up sign. His dogs also greeted him at the hospital door. On Tuesday, his wife Vicki wrote an e-mail to her friends praising her husband's resiliency. "Teddy is leading us all, as usual, with his calm approach to getting the best information possible," she said, according to Associated Press. "He's also making me crazy (and making me laugh) by pushing to race in the Figawi this weekend," she wrote, referring to an annual sailing race from Cape Cod to Nantucket. All three presidential candidates have publicly expressed their support for Kennedy. Sen. Barack Obama told supporters in Iowa on Tuesday that Kennedy "spent his life in service to this country not for the sake of glory or recognition, but because he cares – deeply, in his gut – about the causes of justice, and equality, and opportunity." Obama added, "We know he is not well right now, but we also know that he’s a fighter." In Kentucky, Sen. Hillary Clinton called Kennedy "my friend" and "my inspiration": He's "one of the greatest progressive leaders in our party’s history, and one of the most effective senators in our country's history." Presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain said in a statement: "Senator Kennedy's role in the U.S. Senate cannot be overstated. He is a legendary lawmaker, and I have the highest respect for him." Join Us on Facebook and Twitter for even more up to the minute celebrity news and photos!
