VIDEO: Tim Russert's Son: How I Found Out About My Father's Death

Tim Russert's son opened up to Larry King about how he found out about his father's death on June 13.

Luke, 22, was still vacationing with his mom Maureen in Italy when his father, who had returned home early from the trip, suffered a heart attack at work. The recent college grad was watching a sports game near their hotel.

"I got a call from my dad's secretary that said he had fainted and said could I get in touch with my mother," Luke recalled (Watch above, at 5:33).

"I ran up to her room and said, 'Dad's fainted,'" Luke said. "We learned [the details in] increments."

"At first, I was upset I was away [from him]," Luke said. "But in reality, it was a blessing to be an ocean away because it allowed my mother and me to have some real private time to collect our thoughts and grieve in private."

Luke said his mom has "been so strong through this."

Asked by King if he'd consider a career in journalism, Luke replied, "You never know... can I be your assistant?"

When I heard about Tim Russert's death I immediately thought about his family, his father, wife, son and sisters. As much as the world grieved it would not compare to their loss. He was so devoted to his only son it's only natural that everyone wants to know he'll be okay. I hope we will hear something about his father too.

He is a very well-educated, well-spoken young man who has handled his father's passing with exception maturity and grace. I would not say he is milking it, not at all. He is speaking highly and keeping his father's memory alive, vibrant and glowing to the world as it should be. Luke is a glimpse to me of the healthy and incredible fantastic foundation that Tim and his wife paved for their only child.

You are so wrong 3:31! This kid as you call him is trying to honor his father and the values that he taught him. Everyone grieves differently and Luke is doing just what is father would want for him to do. Tim Russert was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and those are a few of the traits that he taught his son. Luke stayed at the wake for his father and greeted everyone that came to pay the respects to the family, he didn't have to do that. He did it becasue that is what his father would have done. He is a great tribute to his father and his legacy.

Such a sad segment in Luke's life. However, he handled it very well, with such incredible strength and polished grace. I'm willing to bet job offers are pouring in to him. It would surprise me if he didn't follow in his father's footsteps.
