Golf Channel announcer Kelly Tilghman is facing heavy criticism for saying young golf players should "lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley" on Friday's broadcast of a PGA Tour event.
Tilghman has since apologized, saying, "I used some poorly chosen words. I have known Tiger for 12 years and I have apologized directly to him."
Tell Us:
Too many people get away with saying extremely racists things whether black or white. Until people are made to be responsible for the things they say and do(racially), then racism will never cease. Our children will continue the cycle if they don't see anything different.
Poor choice of words, correct. But if Tiger had been white would she have said this? They might have been friends for 12 years but this just shows how she really thinks. If she did not think this way, it would have not slipped out.
He should apologize for this. You guys can check his profile out at richromances.com where people post many comments on him.
Get over it!
Tiger is so stupid he did not even get offended by what she said. Sad! She took a cheap shot at him and he acts as if he did not get it.
We are taking steps more and more towards a politically correct society and forfeiting our first amendment rights. I think we need to stop focusing on what's being said and focus on who's saying it and why...obviously this woman meant no harm and i'm sure its just a joke...the question is, if she were black or if she were someone like carlos mencia or chris rock, would this even be an issue?
there's a double standard in our society of who can make these jokes and who can't, and frankly, when there are true people out there like the Aryan Brotherhood who would love to literally lynch people like tiger, why are we so obsessed about one dumb joke?
people need to loosen up and laugh...there are bigger issues in the world right now...
Poor choice of words is exactly what it is. Was there any racial hatred backing in that comment….Probably not. Should she have chosen different word? Sure. I'm sure it was not a thought out comment. People sometimes say what’s there and don’t think twice. Now should she get fired? NO! I am black and I say NO! Think people we can’t go around thinking everything was meant racially when there can be simple mistakes and coincidences. If Tiger isn’t mad and he was the black person involved then why should we. I am not in the least bit offended.
Lynching is pretty strong and poorly chosen. Hope this lady thinks again before she opens her trap next time.
This is so funny because Tiger calls himself "Calabanese" instead of black. Even though his father is black and he therefore IS black, his mother was Polynesian. So he made up this bogus "calabanese" word. Obviously he does not like being black, which I don't like about him.
Anyhow, I feel that the announcer, like us, was thinking the same thing and "slipped up" with her big mouth. The comment was highly inappropriate. She could be fired, but what good what that do? She'll just bounce right back. She's already "apologized" to keep her job.
Color is good. He had a quality profile at the niche interracial dating site named interracialconnect.com .
Does he want an interracial marriage like Hottest
Interracial Celebrity Couple Seal and Heidi Klum????????????????????????????
Oh dear God, people! The world, our country rather, has become so over politically correct it ridiculous! Nobody can have an opinion anymore, much less voice it, out of fear of this kind of stupidity. I think I remember something about freedom of speech but yeah, it's been so long since speech has really been free that I'm beginning to forget. EVERYONE JUST NEEDS TO GET OVER THEMSELVES.
I don't think she should be fired

Wow! You people are scaring me! I can't believe that this statement didn't horrify you! If Tiger were Jewish and she said that he should be "put in an oven alive" I would be just as angered. Maybe black lives aren't worth as much to you.........

I'll say it sense the other wnot. I don't give a crap about you blacks. so sick of the complaning. go to Africa if we're so bad over here. the woman meant no harm but you people always want to make a big deal out of everything. i wish my forefathers didn't enslave such whiny people. get over it already!

Tiger's agent is calling it a non-issue - case closed

Well she didn't just offend him so that is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. I'm not angry because she said it to Tiger Woods, I'm angry because she said it PERIOD. Tiger doesn't even consider himself black. As far as he is concerned he is white because he has been accepted by them. I couldn't care less about Tiger Woods.

If it were the other way around and it was said to a white person, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I'm sorry I must have been asleep for that part of American History. I had no idea white people were lynched by black people!

2:25 - Where did you grow up? What about the Jews? immigrants, women, homosexuals, lesbians, overweight people, etc. Know what you're talking about before you sound off. People have been putting other people down since time began. Blacks are a big part of it but they are by no means the only ones.
----------------------------------------
No one said that blacks were the only ones! She made a joke about lynching a black man! That is not OK because we were lynched not too long ago! In Texus a black man was tied to the back of a truck and dragged to death! Wow. I am actually surprised. If someone made a comment about ovens in regards to a Jewish person I would be just as disgusted! If someone spoke about tying a gay man to a fence and pistol whipping him I would be just as disgusted. Well maybe I'm just special because I don't like that type of hate talk. I was not raised in your home by your parents with your values. Excuse me for actually giving a darn about people. I apologize. Wow.

I'm so sick of people using the race card.
GET OVER IT
2:56 - We're talking about something someone "said" - lynching has nothing to do with it - you're taking this way too far into left field.

You don't know what it was like to be lynched and killed either, it didn't happen to you
Yes, but if we were all fired every time we were rude or insensitive, no one in this country would be able to hold a job. People say things they regret regardless of race, etc...the thing we need to get past is the fact that only when it's against a black person does it become an issue. Yes, our history was filled with horrible things. But it's history. Most of us have learned and ignore the few who haven't. They don't even deserve the attention. We need to move on. Be accountable, yes - fired, that's a little harsh.
you're absolutely right. If this was said to a white person nobody would be having this conversation because they were not the ones to be lynched and killed. Black people were the ones that suffered through racism and hatred in a way that no other race can really know. To make jokes and insensitive comments like Kelly did is rude, unclassy and unacceptable. There is a reason that Don Imus and Kelly are under fire for their speech. If you are going to be in the public eye you need to be aware of your actions and how they affect the people listening. She should definitely be held responsible for her comments
Exactly 2:12. Get real he was being funny, and all hell breaks loose. Grow up he shouldn't be fired for saying something like that, he didn't mean it as a racist comment.
Wow! I am amazed that white people still think it is all right to joke about black people getting lynched! It amazes me that you all think we should just laugh about it. Not too long ago white people lynched black people as sport. I understand that your part in black history is disgusting but don't deny it. In the 1960's black people were lynched just for looking at a white woman. Do some research on Emmitt Till and then come back and tell me that we're being sensitive. God, sometimes white people really anger me but then I remember that some of you are actually good people.

This is political correctness being blown out of proportion.
Why does everything have to be about race.
I'd like to know who is making this into such a big deal. Someone called me fat ugly the other day...maybe I should try and get them fired - they certainly hurt my feelings. Oh, but it only works if I'm black...I don't get it.
