SAG Awards 2008

Sunday night's Screen Actors Guild Awards included touching tributes to Heath Ledger.

Accepting his award for best leading actor in a dramatic role, There Will Be Blood's Daniel Day-Lewis told the crowd, "For as long as I can remember, the thing that gave me a sense of wonderment, of renewal, the thing that teased me with the question 'How is such a thing possible?' and then dared you go back into the arena one more time has always been the work of other actors."

"There are many actors in this room tonight including my fellow nominees who’ve given me that sense of regeneration," he said.

"Heath Ledger gave it to me," he said. "We wanted to follow him and yet we were afraid to follow him. In Brokeback Mountain, he was unique. He was perfect. That scene in the trailer in the end of the film is as moving as anything I think I've ever ever seen. I’d like to dedicate this award to him."

Nominee Ryan Gosling acknowledged Ledger's work on the red carpet, saying, "I admired him a lot." Gosling and his sister Mandi wore black ribbons in honor of the late actor, who was found dead on Tuesday. "Mandi made them for Heath," Gosling said.

Ledger and Brad Renfro were also included in the telecast's montage of actors who died this year.
