On August 8, the beehived Brit was rushed to London’s UCLH hospital for “exhaustion.” The star’s rep, Tracey Miller, says her client is merely overworked. But source close to Winehouse blame alcohol and drugs. Indeed, Winehouse, 23, who grew up working-class in London, has long been a wild child. Her taxi-driver dad and pharmacist mom divorced when she was 9. Her response? Calling herself a “violent drunk,” the singer has said she battled eating disorders, and her arm bears scars from cutting. “But the time I was 15, my parents realized I would do whatever I wanted, and that was it really,” she has said. Around that time, she got her first of many tattoos and pierced her nose, which got her kicked out of theater school. Despite the international success of her second album, Back to Black, she lacks confidence in anything other than music, friends say. "When it comes to self-worth and looks," says a pal," she has a low opinion of herself." Meanwhile, in recent months, the singer, who once toiled as an entertainment reporter, canceled shows in London and Los Angeles, and has backed out of appearances in Europe. Though Winehouse’s rep says that after a rest the singer will resume touring, friends still worry. “Part of her problem is she has a young, strong, physical constitution and a strong mind,” says childhood pal Jessica Ashby. “But they are also her solution." This evening, while searching for Amy's videos on YouTube, I began to notice a deterioration in her appearance. Suddenly, when I got to the DL "Valerie" video, I thought; This woman's life is going to be as tragic as that of Janice Joplin's. So, I quickly searched the web for her story, and then discovered that she's struggling with drugs and alcohol. I wish I could fly to her side and sit with her and say: "Amy, you're absolutely amazing, and beautiful, and wonderful and brilliant, and seductive, and complex and multi-faceted and an amalgam of intergalactic material burning through the night's sky of stardom." You're one of the finest recent voices to join that narrow cat walk of truly gifted singers; Etta James, Imogen Heap, Dusty Springfield, anyone who reads this knows what I mean. But Amy, just hold on. Don't burn up. Don't snuff out your light. Don't leave us here without you. Stay bright. Stop poisoning your bloodstream and your head will clear up. It, everything will quickly get better, you'll see. You'll have a great big world to travel around and through. You'll be able to help so many and give so much in your angelic way. Wow, easy on the kicking someone while they're down JAN...hey but if it makes you feel better, that's your problem. Personally, I feel sorry for anyone strung out on drugs, especially if they're wasting away, as it appears Amy is. Why not say, "Wow, I hope she gets better" or something like that. Maybe that's too hard for you.

I was quasi-joking about having "called" it. I recieved some flack last week when a story was run about her "exhaustion" and I said she needed to stop doing drugs and she wouldn't be so exhausted. There were some people who said I was judgemental b/c I didn't truly know the condition... So I just wanted to be totally obnoxious and jump out there and say I was right...just because I'm a little sh*t like that! And I agree, those reasons for entering rehab are different, we'll see if anyone decides to take it seriously and get better!

It doesn't matter how you get help, as long as you get it. My mom "forced" me to go, and that was the last thing I wanted to do EVER. But I went, and it was the best thing I've ever done. If she can get sober for just a little while to see what life can be like once you work out some issues, I don't think she'd want to go back out there. ADMITTING you have a problem is the hardest part. No one wants to admit they're an alcoholic(me) or an addict. Even when everyone else can see it, for some reason, you can't. That's what so baffling about the disease. I'll have 9 months sobriety on Friday, and trust me, it hasn't always been easy. But like we say, our worst day sober beats our best day using. I wish her lots of luck. Don't give up until the miracle happens!!!

I doubt it's a publicity stunt. At least I definitely wouldn't assume it is. She cancelled gigs opening for the Stones, far and away the biggest gigs she's ever had...that wouldn't make much sense.

I'm going to the Austin City Limits Music Festival/ACLFest in mid-Sept. Winehouse is on the bill for Sat 9/15, 5:30-6:30. It usually is 100+ degrees and high-90% humidity at that time of day. When I heard she'd been hospitalized for 'exhaustion' after reading about all Amy's 'no-shows' on gigs inside and in controlled conditions, I figured it would definitely be a miracle if Amy keeps her gig. She'll miss a kick-ass gathering of 75,000 fans if she cancels, but that's OK because The White Stripes close the festival that night. Last year Jack and the Raconteurs had Amy's time slot and it was rock & roll mayhem.

Yes, exhaustion is publicist-speak for overdose or nervous breakdown. Was that a secret or something? Many sources are citing a quote from her admitting it was an overdose. If I'm not mistaken, misquoting something like this would be grounds for libel, so with so many citing it, I think it's safe to say that's what happened.

I've read this is on MSNBC Entertainment, I'm Not Obsessed, TMZ, Perez Hilton, Popsugar, Mollygood......etc....and these stories have been going on for a few days now, not just today. Quite a few of them also said her husband joined her in rehab. I'm sorry but most of the sites listed are USUALLY, not always, right about what they post and they are willing to admit when they've printed a story that's not true.

Hahaha! I CALLED IT!! I called her little "exhaustion" stint for what it was...along with the rest of us "stereotypers" with common sense. I heard, her boyfriend and her decided to go to rehab after their fathers got in a fight over their kids' drug use...
