Diana Lee Wolozin — the “masseuse” who discovered Heath Ledger's body Tuesday and who made three frantic calls to Mary-Kate Olsen before phoning 911 — does not hold a state license to perform massage therapy.
She is not listed on the New York State Education Department's Web site, which tracks licensed health care professionals. (Licensed massage therapists are supposed to be certified in CPR.)
Practicing massage therapy without a license is a felony; Wolozin could face fines or jail time.
“We have notified the New York City Police Department as part of their investigation that no one by that name is licensed as a massage therapist in the state of New York,” Jonathan Burman, spokesman for the New York State Education Department, tells Usmagazine.com.
Burman said Wolozin had not been under investigation prior to the Ledger incident.
Kathleen Doyle, Executive Secretary for the State Board, tells Us, “I can only tell you that in New York state, at this time, the law requires that any person who uses the titles 'masseur, masseuse or massage therapist' must possess a license. It’s a health profession in New York.”
It is still unknown whether the NYPD or Manhattan District Attorney would pursue charges.
Wolozin had phoned Olsen three times before calling 911. Emergency workers arrived about 23 minutes after Wolozin first discovered Ledger's body.
Authorities believe Ledger was already dead while Wolozin was calling Olsen.

Now Ashley Olsen is telling her sister Mary-Kate to get her own life. Hmmm. Sounds like Ashley is on to something and has chosen to separate from her twin sis. Ashley is codependent and is sick, sick, sick (anorexia, preys on the sweet & vulnerable).
Hope the police dept investigates thoroughly!!!
The family should investigate, too, and compare their info with what the police dept comes up with.
Common sense would tell anyone to call 911. She should also not have been practicing massage without the proper education and fully licensed in New York. Any properly trained L.M.T. would know the do's and don'ts when performing a massage on a client or paotient (depending on why they are receiving a massage). Also, The police should be should be taking actions againset her instead of hoping that the family would take action against her.
"My ambition is all in my head. I'm on a journey. I'm on a walkabout. It's about collecting wisdom of emotions and heart and self and understanding. Being absolutely comfortable with your body and life and the Earth, sun and moon being the only truths. That's what my success is, getting underneath that. At the end of the day, that's the only thing you're going to carry with you when you die." Heath Ledger, May 18, 2001
What a beautiful soul and spirit...
Three calls to someone else(no matter how close they are) other then emergency when you saw a dead or unconscious person..no..it just doesn't make sense.
Is this woman allowed to continue working even though she isn't properly licensed?
The people who are involved need to be thoroughly investigated.
Oh great, now this woman has a stalker. Leave her alone, you crazies!

I appreciate your insight since you know the live in Manhattan & have a massage therapist. Your questions are right on target.
About Diana Wolozin, go to www.privateeye.com. She is 45 and has lived in L.A. & Venice CA, MA and looks like she currently lives in NYC; this website once gave a list of employers but discontinued, unfortunately.
www.switchboard.com lists her address & phone #.
I still say the police / investigators are biding their time. My hope is that Heath Ledger's family will conduct a private investigation on their own.
No excuse for not calling 911 right away. It could have meant the difference between life and death. Now we'll never know. She should be charged.
Who is this woman? No one has said who she is. A massage therapist? Where's her office? Where does she live? Who are her clients? I live in Manhattan I have a massage therapist that visits me once a week. She is licensed. Has an office too.
Who is this woman?
Why can't some reporters do a real story on her? Schools, drivers llic. Last addresses, high school buddies who knew her when? She's still an unknown.
She was so self-serving in the way she handled this. I want to know all about her. How did Heath find her? Was she in fact a drug dealer? Or a bleep? Why aren't the people who know how, digging for this information? Everyone I talk to wants to know.
We know about Heath. God Bless Him. But lets see what's at the heart of this woman.
Wrong Anonymous @ 6:30 pm: Like Grace @ 9:40 am said, if Diana Wolozin had been properly licensed and thus medically trained she would have checked her emotions at the door and acted in a professional manner. This is a 45 year old woman, for crying out loud, calling a 21 year old (who isn't the most stable of people) for 'help'. Come on - of course, Ms. Wolozin and Olson were covering something up.
The police have a great strategy: publicly say that they have no interest in Ms. Olson. Meanwhile, she thinks she's off the hook...Then, as the investigation continues, subpoena her phone records and confiscate her computer to find out who she's been telling what.
And big deal about how YOU reacted to finding someone dead. I was on a highway a few years ago and came upon a horrible wreck that had just happened involving four people. I was the only person at the scene for a long time, I remained calm while I helped these people - and I had NO training.
Quit enabling these people!
Yeah when your in trouble call another dipstick like Mary Olson first instead of 911.
What a couple of idiots.
There is no, absolutly none, zero excuse why this dumb dingbat didn't call 911 first!
I can't believe the morons on here who will excuse that idiotic behaviour.
She was there to give him head. Not just a massage!
The problem with this world is idiots like this:
6:43 PM Anonymous Says:
Whatever her licensing status, Diana Lee Wolozin is an excellent massage therapist. And very professional. She's been working where I live for years and has a very good reputation.
It looks like there were about 26 minutes between the time she found Ledger and called 911. And she has said she called Olsen first to preclude a "media circus." She made intelligent decisions based on the fact that she is NOT a press agent, a pubicity manager nor is she trained to make split-second decisions under the enormous pressure of the situation. Are you? So she asked someone's advice first. And then when it looked like the situation was worse than she originally though, she made her own decision to call 911.
Bravo Diana.
Wow, some of you people just are sickening with the comments of
"Too bad the unlicensed servant biche didn't adhere to her instruction to adminster stimulation to Heath's prostate with her tongue and saggy, deflated hag-teats! Now baby Matilda is without a daddy--for this week only! A drug-engorged Michelle will dig up Heath's corpse and feed off his pubicmound and manmeat! So fun to smell!"
that is gross and totally uncalled for. This is nothing to joke about at all!
Bravo Grace!
You can make all the excuses you like, including that you know her, she's been practicing for years, etc. Diana Wolozin was obviously not a good massage therapist for three basic reasons:
1. She wasn't licensed. Usually that means you're not properly trained.
2. She didn't know how to perform CPR. Another indication that she probably did not attend college to gain qualifications in massage therapy.
3. She did not call 911 at first glance. This is the first tenet for a massage therapist in an emergency situation - you call 911 not your press agent, not your little friends. You can cite all the reasons you like about shock and not thinking. Proper training reinforces that, whatever your status, you call emergency services when you find someone unconscious.
That she allowed security guards in with Heath's body before authorities and paramedics arrived only heightens the suspicions I already feel surrounding this case.
Bottom line was she was only looking out for herself. I hope she is duly charged under state laws for practising unlicensed - especially so if she's been doing this for years as claimed by another poster - and that she is slapped with a jail term. She brings shame on a very reputable profession in which people work hard to get their licenses and perform their services diligently and within the law.
I hope Mary Kate is just slapped. Repeatedly.
I think we should focus on Heath. He was a good actor who we need to focus on. This woman is not the way to go. We need to realize that someone can not react fast, but I think that they need to look at her record.
God Rest His Soul and family too.
All of you people judging this woman so harshly need to get over yourselves! The licensing laws are used to break up massage parlors where prostitution is taking place, not to fuel your crazy witch hunts.
Kat, you think you would've saved him. HA! The only thing you would've given him is a happy ending, you dumb bimbo. Get the f#ck over yourself.
Damn Mary Kate you kill'im! I hate you.
Has anyone who has said such harsh things about this woman ever found a dead person before? I have. It is one of the scariest things you will ever encounter. Dead people do not look like sleeping people (but he was face-down, so she might not have seen the signs): they are stiff, hard to move, and probably have liquid of some kind oozing from every orifice you can imagine (yes, ears). And that's just the face. The 9-1-1 operator tells you to move the person on to the floor, but having to move a heavy person by yourself is nearly impossible without breaking something, like their neck. It is also impossible to clear the airway of someone who is in rigor. You would almost have to break their jaw. And if you're in shock (which I was, and she probably was too), then you don't have the fine motor control to press hard enough on the person's chest to begin compressions. You'd be shaking too badly. I HAVE had training, and I still froze and panicked. Not because I was afraid of getting in trouble, but because I did not want to believe that the person was dead, and someone who is alive is less likely to need CPR. When you get certified for CPR, you do it on mannequins and people who laugh because of the silly nature of the role-play. You do not practice on an oozing, stiff, person who is inadvertantly staring at you while you are above their face. It's easy to assume a position of superiority when you have never been in the situation that you are judging. It's hard to judge that person if you have gone through what they have.
I am sure the masseuse and Mary-Kate sure wish they would have called 911 first now... in an effort to avoid a media crush they succeeded in creating a **** storm of their own.
Oh what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive
Questions: Why did Wolozin call Mary Kate Olsen first of all people? How did Wolozin know to find her number on Heath's cell phone? What did Wolozin say and then Olsen say on the phone? Is Olsen her boss or drug friend or not? Why is Olsen not being questioned by the NYPD?
Seems like Olsen knows a lot more than she is saying....
I commend *USMagazine* for being the ONLY publication to call Wolozin's legitimacy in to question. Everybody else is buying the masseuse title.
Tracy
We will most likely find out the Heath was dead upon her arrival, I am sure she was trained, she has been practicing message for many years.
She was shocked and scared. You are looking for someone to blame for this tragedy and its not her.
She made mistakes and when under intense pressure sometimes people dont think clearly.
Have compassion......
Too bad the unlicensed servant biche didn't adhere to her instruction to adminster stimulation to Heath's prostate with her tongue and saggy, deflated hag-teats! OK I looked at the timeline and I'm wrong but there is a huge difference between a Licensed Massage Therapist and a non Licensed one. You can get hurt badly if you don't know what your doing. and the person out there that said you can perform massage without a license is right you just can't get paid for it. You can't even advertise the word massage without a license, you can get in big trouble for it. Heath RIP. This whole thing is just so sad.
I’m a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of New York and most of you jerks don’t know what your talking about. She’s kind of responsible for his Death, I think that’s what their trying to say here. If you look at the time line, she could have saved his life if she was Licensed, she would have had CPR training (that was a red flag to me when I read the news the last couple of days). She waited to call 911 because she didn’t want to get in trouble. She waited 23 minutes to make the right decision when if she was properly trained she would have made all the right decisions and we might have not lost a Great Actor. I hope she pays for this for a long time!
I truly do not understand why if you found someone unconscious you would call MARY-KATE OLSEN!!! She's a waste of space under normal circumstances, much less in an emergency.
I also do not understand why if you knew your "friend" was unconscious you would call private security people...um, 911 anybody?
Maybe it wouldn't have made a difference but if I was his family I would always wonder if the circumstances would have been different had help arrived sooner. It's one thing to be a massage therapist without a license, it is quite another to be really effing stupid.
