I feel that scientology is wrong.Anything organization that study's something other than the bible and does not believe that Jesus is lord and saviour is wrong. But we as christians should not judge. For God says he will have mercy on whom he pleases. If you believe that there is a satan then how can you not believe that there is no God. The bible has been written many years ago. It was before and after Julius Ceasars time. How can things that were discovered mostly in the renaissance be found in the bible if God is not real. If Galileo or any of the famous scientist wanted to know about other parts of the world or the body all they had to do is read the bible.

It doesn't matter what religion you are as long as you believe in Jesus Christ as Savior. You HAVE to repent of your sins and be saved in order to have eternal life, otherwise you will go to Hell. This is the truth and anyone that says its absurd to believe in God is going to Hell, scientologists will go to Hell, b/c they belive in more than one God and that is against the Law of God, and its sad. Will Smith's religion is his religion. Who among us is so arrogant as to tell someone that something they get benefit from should not be followed? There are many books written by many leaders in history such as Jefferson, Will Durant and Napolean Hill that discuss the traits of those who are successful. These include the willingness to secure a path that is often less followed, to rise above the need for acceptance and to dispose of the views from the negative people in your life.

My suggestion to Will Smith is to continue to choose his own path and to not bother listening to the negative naysayers that have always been attracted to ANY movement throughout history. These individuals lack purpose and often define their lives not by the good deeds they do but by the "evil" the decry in others.

We know this type of person. The consumate "helper" who says they degrade, mock and condemn for the good of mankind. To somehow save us from our own ignorance that they have so insightfully discerned we lack.

Lastly, how much stock should one take in a person's opinion when their best response to a logical, well documented position on the validity of a religion is, "well,....er....I don't know about all that stuff you just said but Scientology is a cult and you are all nuts, ha, take that!" ?

OK, Those of you who are 'haters' might as well skip my comment.

For the intelligent people out there here is something from a person who was raised in the Roman Catholic religion and attended Catholic school through high school and studied Catholicism AND FOUND IT INTERESTING THE WHOLE TIME.

Now-- same person-- I am a Scientologist and have studied this religion for over 30 yrs.

Here are the similarities from my point of view. Both are religions. Both have clear cut principles. Both have confession though in Scientology it is much more detailed. And both promote spiritual enlightenment.

The differences? In Scientology one is encouraged to establish a personal relationship with the Supreme Being but is not dictated or enforced in that relationship.

In Catholicism (from my point of view) Jesus Christ is part of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Ghost) and these are the deities that one believes in as a Catholic.

There are many many other differences but the similarities in terms of the definition of 'religion' classify them both as bona fide religions.

I left Catholicism at 18 and found Scientology at 22. I have benefited greatly from both, especially from my Catholic education which prepared me for the intensive studies I have done as a Scientologist. The nuns and priests did a great job and I thank them for that.

Do I think Scientology is similar to Christianity? Too vague a question, but my first instinct is a resounding, "No..." Gut reaction, sorry, and I am holding back.

To give your question a non-emotional and rational answer:

"Yes," If you are looking at "Christianity" and "Scientology" as strictly organized religions and not at the originating principles, scriptures and philosophies. Once one enters into a religious organization, I believe, one loses freedom and enters the material world of persecution and judgment, automatically losing the original intent of the Word.

Are they the same scripture-wise as well? Possibly. On paper, the philosophies of Christ and Hubbard are similar (i.e. reaching higher personal levels, treating everyone equally, etc.)

Christianity and Scientology are not truly comparable, though, since Christianity is split into different faiths, where, as far as I know, Scientology is only one. I have yet to hear of a Scientologist officially breaking off and forming a separate faith based on Scientology. You have to ask why this is. Maybe this is the question that should be asked. I have a feeling someone has tried and has had a problem or two.
