I nurse in public all the time :) And I be as conspicuous as possible about it too. Making breastfeeding the norm again is important to me. The benefits are so numerous. And when my 8 month old becomes a toddler and still wants to nurse, we'll be a nursing-in-public mommy-toddler pair. It's good for her, it's good for me, and it's good for everyone else to see that it is normal and healthy and not scary. I show no more skin than I show in a tank top while nursing.
Another important point to make is that nursing is a great way to soothe a fussy baby. Would you rather hear my child screaming insessantly or see her nurse for a few minutes? Honestly, which is more annoying? You can at least look away from the nursing scene... you can hear a screaming child from clear across Wal-Mart ;)
Everyone who says that breast feeding is gross or sexual or indecent should probably consider their reasons for feeling that way.
