It’s been nearly a week, but Royal Wedding fever continues to go strong — particularly in regards to Meghan’s makeup. The newly minted Duchess looked soft, feminine and utterly radiant on her wedding day thanks to the genius crafting of celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin, represented by the Wall Group, who gave her a naturally beautiful look that we can’t get out of our minds.

Luckily, Martin shared some of the secrets to nailing that sheer complexion that showed off Markle’s freckles, her head-to-toe glow and even the trick he used to give the bride her now iconic doe-eyed gaze in an interview with Glamour.

First things first: that glow. Martin explained that even though the trend in makeup is uber full-cover, strobed and contoured to create a false dimension, one your wedding day you don’t want to look back at the pictures and be distracted by the trendy 2018 makeup you wore. Because Meghan is very much about keeping her skin as real and natural as possible, he just wanted to elevate and enhance that. For prep, Martin used a clarifying toner, water-based moisturizer and a Korean sunscreen (because of the high noon light) to act as a foundation primer. Then, he neutralized any discolorations with concealer and foundation. The key to this: Martin prefers water-based foundations for this purpose because they absorb into the skin and don’t become oily over time.

Oh and, the secret to her lashy flutter as she gazed up at Prince Harry (swoon)? “I customized and shaped out some corner lashes to give her that doe-eye look, pulling them out on the outer corners. This added weight to her natural lashes without looking heavy,” says Martin.

For those of Us who were just obsessed with how good Markle’s shoulders looked in the Givenchy and Stella McCartney gowns, Martin also shared a key tidbit to getting her enviable radiance. “The same luminizer that I used on her face was also on her body. You have to keep the continuity for it to appear harmonious from head to toe,” says Martin. That’s a trick we can all use for our upcoming summer weddings.

Leave it to Meghan Markle to totally bring back the natural, fresh-faced vibe with her wedding makeup — and now we have the keys to nailing the look, too.
