Countless celebs took to social media on Tuesday, June 5, to express their sadness over the suicide death of acclaimed contemporary designer Kate Spade, but a few stars — Molly Ringwald, Kathy Griffin, and Savannah Guthrie — took things one step farther by wearing designs from her namesake line in tribute.

Comedian Griffin attended the West Hollywood Rainbow Key Awards wearing a polka dot Kate Spade minidress and coordinating navy handbag. On Instagram, she shared that she was inspired by the business woman and designer.

“I decided to wear head-to-toe Kate Spade to an event tonight to honor her contributions to fashion and women in business,” Griffin captioned a photo of her outfit. “I always admired that she was self-made and was so sad to hear the news of her passing. Rest easy, Kate. And thank you for making so many women feel wonderful.”

Ringwald, meanwhile, accessorized her red lace dress and floral headpiece with a striped clutch from the Kate Spade collection at the The Hatter’s Mad Tea Party: 2018 Moth Ball event in NYC. While Kate sold the brand to Liz Claiborne in 2007 and departed the company soon after, the roots of her joyful, feminine aesthetic are felt to this day.

On the Today Show on Wednesday, June 6, Guthrie appeared in a fuchsia and tweed Kate Spade sheath dress that was “paying tribute to the iconic designer.” The sartorial homage came just hours after the morning show host expressed her condolences on Twitter, sharing that she “loved” Kate Spade’s “beautiful and whimsical fashions.”

Similar sentiments poured in on social media, with celebs like Mindy Kaling, Chelsea Clinton and Lena Dunham recalling their favorite memories of her designs. In recent years, Spade and her husband Andy started a new venture, Frances Valentine, that was named after their daughter and featured colorfully printed totes, bags, shoes and accessories in keeping with her bold and creative eye.
