This week, Gwen, Us Weekly editor Jennifer Peros and deputy beauty and style director Beth Shapouri welcomed British hair guru Johnnie Sapong (the mane man behind all those iconic ‘90s-era editorials Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Carolyn Murphy and the rest of the OG supermodel crew starred in) to talk about all of the hair looks Meghan Markle has been sporting on the royal tour of Australia, Fiji and Tonga.
From updos to ponytails, half-up, half-down ‘dos to glossy blowouts, the Duchess has traded her go-to messy bun for an array of styles throughout her travels that are smart and sophisticated while still being relatable and attainable. Sapong credits the former Suits actress’ American heritage for her more accessible style.
“It [feels] approachable,” the mane man explains. “I think the fact that she’s American and has married into the British royal family still means that there is a nice crossover. It’s a global aspect that everyone can look at.”
Sapong points to the flower-adorned chignon she sported in Fiji on Wednesday, October 24, as an example of a hairstyle that feels “fresh and modern” but still royal. It’s “not making her look older beyond her years,” he says.
