Stella Maxwell just got a snake massage — and she lived to tell the tale. The model took to social media on Wednesday, December 5, to share pics of herself handling boa constrictors after a treatment with self-proclaimed “Snake Priestess” Serpentessa. The slithering creatures were part of a so-called snake massage that apparently isn’t quite as unusual as you might expect.

“Entwine in interspecies love to remember your wild divine nature,” Maxwell posted on Instagram, quoting Serpentessa. “Get present, embrace power and embody pleasure.” The blonde beauty went on to describe her serpentine self care as an “amazing experience.”

According to her website, Serpentessa has been working with non-venomous boa constrictors for more than three decades, and she began to use them for medicinal purposes about 20 years ago. Today, she practices out of spas in the New York City area and has celeb clientele like Whoopi Goldberg.

She says allowing the reptiles’ “soothing undulations” to freely move up and down the body helps to “dispel any fears or concerns by toning and stimulating” the vagus nerve, which, in turn, releases endorphins and oxytocin.

A typical massage involves clients laying on a table with up to four snakes roaming around as Serpentessa watches and guides. The reptiles are free to move about on their own, and Maxwell shared a snap with one draped around her neck and another around her waist.

The technique reportedly dates back to the fifth century BC, and Serpentessa says it can be used to “relieve stress, create pleasure and increase your emotional, physical and cognitive resiliencies in today’s stressful world.”

If you’re brave enough to come face to face with a boa constrictor (or four!), one-on-one snake massages with Serpentessa begin at $297 for 75 minutes and can be booked at Serpentessa.com.
