Say goodbye to the pleasure pillows! Oscar winner Helen Mirren has had no problem showing off her body throughout her almost five-decade-spanning career. In fact, her boobs are so famous, they earned their own Saturday Night Live skit back in 2011.
In a new interview with actor Alan Cumming, the host of CBS’ Remember That Time, Mirren, 70, opened up about going nude in her films — and why she won’t be showing her breasts, or “pleasure pillows,” on-screen anytime soon.
“I didn’t know my boobs were legendary. There are much more legendary boobs than mine,” she insisted. Mirren famously had nude scenes in 1979’s Caligula and more recently in 2003’s Calendar Girls.
Mirren admitted that she was hesitant at first to put her chest on display, but eventually she came around to the idea.
“I never wanted to do that. But you know, I thought, ‘Does it really matter?’” she told Cumming. “It’s not a thing to get your knickers in a twist over. I was doing nude scenes from the first moment I started doing movies. It was the era,” she added of her career, which began in the late ‘60s.
And though the Trumbo actress noted that nudity is now commonplace in Hollywood, she no longer plans to strip for the camera.
“That’s the good thing about getting older, you don’t have to do that sort of thing anymore,” she said. “My pleasure pillows are purely for my husband.”
