Keira Knightley is staying mum on her sudden split from actor Rupert Friend after five years together.
But her dad lent some insight into the breakup. "It wasn't a decision that either of them took lightly," actor William Knightley, 64, told The Daily Mail of his daughter, 25, and fellow Brit 29, whom she met on the 2005 set of Pride and Prejudice.
"I know they gave it a great deal of thought," he added. "I don’t think there was any one thing that led to their break-up – it was a whole raft of things, I think."
Knightley and Friend shared an apartment together in London's Hyde Park neighborhood, and rarely spoke about their relationship to the press.
But the famous, Oscar-nominated actress is holding up as a newly single woman, her father said.
"It's very unfortunate, but Keira is coping well and is focusing on a new West End play that she is opening," William explained. "She is getting on with things. I know that she and Rupert will remain great friends."
