It’s official — Jennifer Garner has established herself as the ultimate fitspo. The Alias alum has always been superfit, but over the past few months, she’s taken her physique — particularly her arms — to the next level. The Once Upon a Farm cofounder hadn’t hit the red carpet for awhile before her appearance at the Save the Children Centennial Celebration event in Beverly Hills on October 2, 2019. When she did — wearing a slim, sleeveless black jumpsuit with an oversized bow — Garner’s defined biceps made it clear that the Juno actress hadn’t taken a break from her daily workouts! "She works out either privately with Simone de La Rue or at Simone’s Brentwood studio almost every day,” a source told Us of Garner’s gym routine in 2018. “She also goes hiking or walking her dog. She’s all about being fit and sweating every day."
Garner’s arms and shoulders somehow looked better than ever at the Art of Elysium’s 12th Annual Heaven Gala in L.A. on January 5, 2019. The star made clear that she kept up her consistent workout routine over the holidays, posting an Instagram photo of her boxing with trainer Josh Lands at Churchill Boxing Club on December 22. “I didn’t drop you this time, @josh_lands,” she wrote. “Merry Christmas. 🤣🥊.”
On December 17, 2018, the actress’ buff biceps and shoulders at the American Ballet Theatre’s Annual Holiday Benefit showed that classic push-ups really do work. When she was filming 2018’s Peppermint, “She was actually doing sort of a push-up challenge,” her trainer Simone De La Rue told The Chalkboard. “She was doing up to 100 push-ups in a day just on her own in different segments, like ten at a time throughout the day.”
Garner relies on Simone De La Rue’s dance-based workouts for her fit physique. And as her sculpted biceps at the Los Angeles Dance Project Gala in L.A. on October 20, 2018, showed, the technique pays off. As De La Rue told Us in May 2018, “I think it’s important to have a mix of cardio and strength training. Find a workout that you connect with and enjoy. You will see results faster this way.”
At the premiere of her new HBO show, Camping, in L.A. on October 10, the actress proudly displayed her toned right arm in a silky, one-shoulder pantsuit. Garner has been hitting the gym hard all year long. As she captioned a September 6 Instagram sequence of her practicing fight scenes for her thriller Peppermint, one of the tricks to a fit and flexible physique is to “Train. Train. Train.”
The actress revealed her toned and bronzed arms in a one-shoulder Rami Kadi LBD with a long train at the Peppermint premiere in Los Angeles on August 28, 2018. One way she stays svelte: a healthy diet. The Camping star's nutritionist Kelly LeVeque shared with Us Weekly in July 2018 that she'll ask Garner: "Where are your leafy greens? Where are your herbs? I need beautifying foods.’ They’re alkalizing and detoxifying.”
One secret to the Once Upon a Farm cofounder's supertoned arms? Never skipping a workout. "When you tweak your foot (high heels) but don't want to miss your workout ... #iceit ...," she captioned a July 2018 Instagram post of a video in which she places her feet in a bucket of ice.
To prep for her role in the action-thriller Peppermint, Garner has been ultra focused on defining her arms, says her trainer Simone De La Rue. "Recently, the focus [of our workouts] has been her shoulders, biceps and triceps," the fitness pro tells Us. "To play an assassin, she had to look strong and powerful yet still feminine."
Garner's workout of choice: Body By Simone, a dance and rebound-based workout created by celebrity trainer De La Rue. "I did it this morning, just so you know," the 13 Going on 30 star told Wired in March 2018. "It's a dance cardio, weights, trampoline, all kinds of different things, really fun, high energy, super hard, but you can do it, workout."
Garner, who is currently on the media circuit to promote her farm-to-family Once Upon a Farm organic baby food company, is vocal about her love of De La Rue’s workouts. The Love, Simon actress even brought the Australian trainer with her to Hawaii to continue her workouts during her family getaway with ex-husband Ben Affleck and their three children. "I'm supposed to be on vacation — what's @bodybysimone doing here?! Just joking— I'm so lucky!" Garner, who is starring in HBO's upcoming series Camping, captioned a video of the duo dancing away in a sun-filled studio on Instagram on July 9. For those who can't afford to bring their trainer with them on vacay, De La Rue recently launched her BBS app, which lets clients stream her sweat sessions at home.
The actress swears by the body benefits of a healthy diet. She captioned a January 2018 Instagram video of herself making a smoothie recipe she learned from her nutritionist Kelly LeVeque: “Don’t be scared! It’s tastier than it looks!” Along with Primal Kitchen Collagen Protein Powder (“I prefer the Chocolate Coconut Collagen Fuel,” she wrote), Garner mixed in flaxseed, chia seeds, almond butter, fresh spinach and almond milk. As Primal Kitchen founder Mark Sisson tells Us Weekly, "Our collagen fuels are a deliciously nourishing way to support everything from joints, tendons and muscles to healthy skin, hair and nails."
While dancing is Garner’s go-to workout, throwing punches can also be credited for creating her enviable arms. She was seen leaving Santa Monica’s BoxUnion studio in January, while getting her body prepped for her role in the September 2018 action-thriller Peppermint. But whatever workout Garner does, it has to make her feel good. “If you can find a workout that makes you smile, do it,” Garner advised fans in a March 2018 post. “Watching the sun come up or dancing midday, I couldn’t do better on this #nationalworkoutbuddyday than you, @bodybysimone.”
De La Rue, who is also a trainer on Khloé Kardashian's fitness reality show Revenge Body, previously told Us, “the beauty about dance is it requires the whole body and it requires mental strength as well — you’re learning coordination.” The fitness pro added, “With all of my clients, the moment that they’re in there working with me, we’re in there to work, we’re there to work hard.”
