RHOC’s Shannon Beador Spills Weight Loss Secrets: See Her Transformation

Making a change. Shannon Beador has been open and honest about her weight gain — and loss — over the years. The Real Housewives of Orange County star revealed in 2017 that she gained 40 pounds while dealing with the aftermath of her then-husband David Beador’s affair. “I knew an allegation was put out there about my husband … that stress caused me to eat more, caused me to drink more, and that’s a huge part of why I gained my weight,” Shannon said during the season 12 premiere of RHOC. “My weight gain has affected me and how I feel about myself. I’m embarrassed of my body.” While the former couple attempted to work out their relationship issues, Shannon and David ultimately called it quits in October 2017 after 17 years of marriage. (The pair, who share daughters Sophie, Stella and Adeline, finalized their divorce in April 2019.) So I realized I have to stop playing around and make the commitment and lose the weight,” Shannon told Us Weekly in August 2019. “I just woke up one day saying ‘Enough, enough excuses. This is your life and I want to be as healthy as I can.’ When I took my shirt off, I think they said I had 40 percent body fat. That’s like a heart attack. So it was really unhealthy.” Shannon noted at the time that she needed to learn how to balance her diet and lifestyle. “I try to eat clean, but then I also want to have fun. I don’t want to deprive myself. So, I make a few good choices and then some maybe [some] not-so-good,” she said. “But I’m not going to lie, I’ve been having a lot of fun recently and I have been going out, and you know, you gain a little back, but it’s about enjoying life and creating a healthy balance.” Scroll through to see Shannon’s amazing transformation:

Getting to Work

“Five years ago almost to the day. Same cabana. Same amazing friend. Not the same body 😩,” Shannon captioned a pic of her from 2012 and a photo from 2017 via Instagram. She added the hashtags, “#goals #workingonit #itsslow #coverupnotcomingoff #nextyear #myfriendstilllooksincredible #sophiessweet16❤️.”

Facing the Facts

Shannon stripped down during a July 2017 episode of RHOC, stepping on the scale in front of the camera and holistic specialist Tim Ramirez. 

“The weight is not devastating, the thing that is rocking my boots here is the body fat: 40 percent,” Ramirez told her at the time. “Almost half of your body has converted to fat. Half. It’s the stuff that kills people. 40 percent, we’re sprinting to diabetes, we’re sprinting to cardiovascular disease. At 50-plus [years old] with these numbers? It is a huge red flag.”

The Stress

“I’ve gained so much weight in a year. I got stressed,” Shannon admitted during the episode. “I didn’t want to hurt David because we both have been through enough.”

Ready for Change

Shannon broke down in tears over her weight gain during several episodes of RHOC season 12.

“I just don’t understand how I let myself go,” she admitted in one episode. “When I look at myself in the mirror, I don’t know who I am. I don’t like to do it. I don’t look because I don’t know who it is.”

The Difference Two Years Can Make

The Real for Real Cuisine founder showed off her weight loss in March 2019 when she tried on a shirt she wore during season 12 of RHOC. The following month, she detailed her diet in a video for Bravo.

"I broke two ribs, and I couldn't exercise for a couple weeks, and that's where I lost the bulk of my weight.  It's what you eat. It's what you put into your body," she said. Now, that doesn't mean a 24/7 stream of celery juice,” she said at the time. "You can eat flavorful, good food that's going to satisfy you. You can eat all day if you want! You just have to choose the right things to put into your body… I always heard that it was 80 percent diet and 20 percent exercise, and yeah, do I have some flab that I want to tone up? Absolutely. But I think it's like 90 percent or more diet."

Her Debut

“I’ve lost 40 pounds, and I’ve gained a lot of fun,” Shannon declared in the season 14 premiere of RHOC, which aired in July 2019. “Fun Shannon, BAM, is back.”

All About Balance

“It’s diet. I’d say 99 percent diet,” Shannon told Life & Style in November 2019. “But you can eat healthy and it still taste good. I just want to be at a healthy balance.”

A Supportive Man

The reality TV star also told the magazine that her boyfriend, John Janssen, goes to the same trainer as her. 

“We need to maybe step it up a little bit,” she quipped at the time. “Gaining a few happy pounds! But that’s all good.”
