Fatherhood suits him well! Ashton Kutcher adorably gushed about his newborn daughter Wyatt, and raising her with his fiancee Mila Kunis, while speaking to Ellen DeGeneres on Friday, Dec. 12.
“She’s a little bit older than two months,” the proud first time dad, 36, said of his baby girl. “Like two and a half months old,” he grinned. “Not counting.”
DeGeneres noted that he and Kunis, 31, were raising their tot without a nanny. “Yes, just the two of us,” the star responded. “It’s awesome. It’s unbelievable.” He later explained why he and his That ’70s Show costar chose not to hire some help.
“We just want to know our kid,” Kutcher confessed. “We want to be the people that know what to do when the baby’s crying to make the baby not cry anymore. We want to know, like when she makes a little face or something we want to be emotionally in touch with her and I think the only way to do that is by being the one who’s there.”
First time parenthood has been chock-full of surprises for the actor, who described the experience as “incredible” to DeGeneres. “When you first get them… you’re all excited and you’re like ready to do all these things,” he mused. “And then you realize it’s like getting a new cell phone where all the features don’t work yet. It’s like a phone doesn’t have it won’t take pictures and you’re like ‘why won’t my phone take pictures?’ And it won’t make calls and it doesn’t do a lot, but it looks really cute!”
Kutcher told a cute story about baby Wyatt’s recent first encounter with her reflection. “It’s unbelievable. She found herself in the mirror and realized she was able to control the thing in the mirror,” he beamed.
Along with singing baby Wyatt’s praises, the actor also gave a big shout-out to Jupiter Ascending actress Kunis. “The most amazing thing about having a baby is my partner, Mila,” he said on Ellen. “She’s the greatest mom I can’t even. I go to work every day and I come home and she’s like perfect. And it just seems like everything went amazing. And I know that something probably didn’t go amazing, but she never tells… it’s unbelievable. She’s incredible.”
What surprised Kutcher most about fatherhood? “You think you know how much you can love another person, and then you have a child and you realize you didn’t know,” he sentimentally noted.
“It’s infinitely rewarding. There’s a great quote by Carlos Slim and he said ‘most people think they need to make a better world for their children, but the reality is we need to make better children for our world.’ And I try to live by that. And I think I really look at this as the greatest opportunity of my life.”
