Bet they raced to the hospital! Former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and his wife, Amy, announced the birth of their first child, Isla Rose Earnhardt, on Tuesday, May 1.
“She’s finally here! @DaleJr and I are officially parents to a beautiful baby girl, Isla Rose Earnhardt,” Amy gushed in a Tweet. “It feels like a dream. The best dream ever.”
The excited dad, 43, shared Amy’s message and wrote, “Everyone was right. It’s a new beginning. Now everything I do will be for her and Amy. So blessed.”
Dale Jr. and Amy announced they were expecting a baby in September. The NBC sports analyst had hoped his daughter would share a birthday with his late father, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., who was born on April 29. “How cool would that be?” Dale Jr. told the Charlotte Observer in January. “I would love that.” (The stock car legend died at age 49 from injuries suffered in a crash at the Daytona 500 in 2001.)
Dale, Jr. and Amy began dating in 2009 and tied the knot on New Year’s Eve in 2017. Now they will enjoy the crazy ride that is parenthood.
“I can’t wait until she gets here, I can’t wait to meet her,” Dale. Jr. told NASCAR.com last month. He then admitted to getting misty-eyed during a tour of the maternity ward.
“They took us into one of the rooms and they showed us where the delivery room island they’ve got that little table there and damn, I about choked up doing that. The baby ain’t even here and I’m looking at this little table and I’m getting choked up like she’s here.”
Dale Jr., retired from NASCAR in 2017 after an 18-year racing career. The new parents are starring together in the upcoming DIY Network series, Renovation Realities: Dale Jr. and Amy, which premieres on June 2 at 9 p.m.
